Disco Electric Windows

Hi all, I've just picked up a '96 Disco and the rear electric windows don't work. I've had the main switch panel apart in the front, and there's no power to the switches for the rear windows, anyone come across this or got any ideas? It's also got the airbag and abs lights on which I believe is a fairly common problem, anyone got a quick, cheap fix?

rear windows no go is a common problem, easy fix if you can handle a soldering iron.

usually a dry joint on the window control circuit board.

i fixed mine by following this:

Ditto as Dragonwagon said, mine also, and it was the exact solder join as per the link pics.
Hardest job is getting the plug off the window ECU, the rest is easy

Thanks guys, I've had mine out tonight and whacked a bit of solder on it (again, failed in the same place as the pic), but still no go for the back windows. I'm taking the board in to give to the electronics guys at work in the morning, so I'll see what they say.

You could try and by pass the switch at the console and see if they work. If this switch is dicky as it is to prevent rear window operation.
It would be unusual for both rear motors to play up.
or borrow a working Window ECU and see if it fixes the problem

I took it in and gave the guys at work a look this morning and they found another dry joint on the board. All fixed now, and I found tonight when I put it back together that the nylon wheel in the track on the passenger rear window's broken. Oh well, at least they go up and down now.

Mate, I posted a fix for the broken window regulator on this link. Simple fix and has lasted for years now

Thanks Rovernaut, I've already got it apart and taken some measurements off the old one and will be knocking up a new one from some nylon or acetal at work tomorrow afternoon. I'm really liking being back in a product development office with a machine shop! :twisted:
Can't wait to get past fixing stuff for rego and start playing, that machine shop's going to be real handy.
