Hi all,
I'm interested in lifting my 1994 model car, and was considering a SPOA. Based on the discussions here, and despite that the fact that I don't do a lot of offroading (at least nowhere near what I would like to be doing :-( ), I was now re-considering that move, in lieu of a spring change.
I was reluctant to spend several hundred dollars on new super duper lifted springs/kits, and was wondering if anyone had experience in knowing what I might find at the wreckers that would provide me with a couple/few inches of lift, and meets the eye centres reasonably well.
While I'm at it, I was also reluctant due to the steering problems with drop pitman arms and z-links, but didn't want to go to the expense of hi-steer (despite it being infinitely superior).
Has anyone got any suggestions as to economical ways of lifting the car in the short term, then, if I like it, can be changed for something more suitable later?
I know I can do a homegrown SPOA for next to nothing, but I DO listen to what people here say in relation to the SPOA, and I'm worried about the steering dangers associated with the z-link (and the expense of the dropped pitman arm), otherwise I would have done it already.

I ran SPOA for about 12 months and never had any problems with the steering/zlink arrangement.
Sorry dude I just sold my drop pitman arm and other bits for about 1/2 price.
It all comes down to $$$ - If you are only fitting 31's just do a 2 inche body lift.
A SPOA conversion is a lot of work for 31's I was never really happy with my SPOA mainly its stability over the types of terrin I wanted to be driving over.

have 2 sets of rear springs reset. then put the second set in the front. will give you a bit of lift in the front as well as more travel.

Have to second what big steve has said - 2 inch body lift will fit 31's, and will require no changes to steering linkages / angles etc... probably a much safer mod if you are looking to do it yourself and save money.

I take it the feroza springs will, what about landrover? I had some from I think a series 1 and it seemed that they were the same width just with different centre holes. (But I threw them out accidently before investigating further) What about stuff from passenger cars. The leaves on the back of my Valiant are way long and soft but a bit wider than I can use. Also heard that mazda 808 wagon leaves are a good option.

I am kinda keen on older model pajero leaves .. sure they are a bit wider but they do have nice thin leaves ..
The spring hangers themselves should not be that much of an issue if you have a grinder and a half competant welder\welding equipment .. as they are really just a piece of C section anr the rear is a bit of tube\pipe with a bush in it .. a two foot long section of C channel would set you back a few dollars .. and a decent drill bit ..
Keep it neat would look quite factory (as opposed to welding plate to the existing hangers) ..

I'm running OME 2 inch lift rears(4 leaves left) in the front with modded missing links and wide track width mounts. In the rear are cj7 wagoneer fronts(3 plus 1) on narrow track width mounts.

The CJ 5 & 6 may be all I need. I already have the OME RUFs. But slightly longer rears would be nice.

isuzu ute rears are good. 1 1/2 xtra in eye to pin to move the diff back and 5" longer in the rear section for a long shackle setup plus equiv. to a 4-5" lifted spring.
can also get hilux yn65 rears to fit for a 6-7" spua lift. remove bushes and ground down the eyes to right width use larger bolt to suit lux bushes and move shackle hangers 3-5" and fit longer shackles. good setup for 35-40" of travel and nice ride as yn's are 6mm leaves and have 2-3" xtra arch on std lux rears.
know other combos if interested.

Sounds interesting. I think the Isuzu springs would be heaps for me. Is it a bolt-in fit with the hangers not having to be moved? What model Isuzu in particular am I after?

How long is a lux rear I thought lux fronts were the same as a yj and they're 45" with a centered pin.
I was thinking lux fronts all round cause the springs are free just about anywhere Make your own packs till the lift comes down to about 2"
Do the 929 ones fit a std zook hangers? I know 808 rear wagons ones and maybe 323 but have not heard of 929s being used.
Anything more on the maz springs mainly need the length from rear eye to pin.
Looking at doing this for flex and not lift as much.
