Hi all,
does anybody have any experience with extractors on a 3.5 L quad cam Pajero? I recently changed to a 2 1/4" straight through exhaust and as well as the expected power increase in the mid range and top end I have found a surprising increase in torque at very low revs (1000 - 2000 rpm). This is exactly what this engine needed, it never had a lot down low.
The exhaust guy says that extractors will give even more power, which I suppose is to be expected, but does anybody have any idea how much better it would be? I'm looking more for torque than outright power. Any feedback would be appreciated.

3.5L extractors

3.5L extractors
3.5 L with too much stuff, and a front locker waiting on the shelf.
Gidday,
I had a set of genie headers fitted to my quad cam some time ago. Noticed bugger all improvement, but then again I left the exhaust as standard.
BTW if your exhaust shop knows anything about these motors they will charge EXTRA $ for fitting, as my shop reckon they got done on the quoted price since the headers are so difficult to fit.
cheers

Yep I've got an article on the fitment of Genie headers + 2.25" s/s exhaust and turbo muffler but this was on a 3.0 V6 though.
They dynoed it before and after, gained 4Kw and saved 10% in fuel consumption so they wreckoned. Cost was around $1000 fitted.
So a 3.5 V6 might gain a bit more as it's a bigger motor.
But I think pretty much all later model exhaust manifolds are fairly efficient so there's not a helluva lot to be gained.
Hi Ian howz everything going ??
Frank.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Thanks for that Frank and Ian, I had heard that the standard manifold was pretty good which is why I am not rushing into extractors. The new exhaust is doing the job very well and perhaps extractors will only give a little bit more go for a lot of dollars. Next weekend will be a good test of the current setup when I give the camper its first outing since fitting the exhaust.
