Mickey T's on a 2000 Hilux

Post by Mammoth »

Hi all
I was lookin at getting a set of 33" Mickey Thompson FC-II on 15in rims for the lux and i was wondering if it was possible to do without any major modifications?
Its a 2000 Extra cab 3L Diesel Hilux with just about everything stock. any info would be greatly appreciated

Just speaking from research that I done when I wanted to do this to my old 1999 SR5 Dual Cab.

It needed a 3" sus lift plus a 2" body lift. and if yours is a standard hilux, you will also need flares/guards.

Looking at about $1800 to get the 5" lift...

Which 3 or 4" sus lift would you recommend there seems to be a few around?

Endless brands make it, Old Man Emu, Rancho, Tough Dog, IronMan etc.

Iron Man is pretty cheap and pretty good quality, then you go to something like old man emu, Expensive and very good quality, depends what you are willing to spend really...

There's also snake racing, I am about to put their kit on one of my new model hilux's soon.

I put some 285/75/16 on pootrol rims on my 1998 model and with only a 2" body lift they just touched the rear of the front wheel arch. need to tap the seam where the 2 panels meet.

You can see in this pic there is a little white tag at the back of the wheel arch, that is what needed to be bent back.

I recently put 32x11.5 R15s on 8" rims with a 3.75" backspacing on my 03 Lux with no body lift and 1.5" bj spacers. I've seen 33x12.5 R15s fitted on the same type of lux with a 2.5" body lift, torsion bar crank and some trimming.

To fit 32s:

Cut the flare and inner guard and fold the tab and seam like so

I filled in the gaps with some thin aluminium sheet and silicone and body tape. I ended up riveting the inner guard to the body and aluminium after the first outing cos it got lifted by mud

Otherwise all this crap will end up collecting in your fender and get forced back to your door

The back tires barely fit when fully flexed

How was the clearance for the spare wheel, i had about 10mm from the diff. My 32x11.5x15 do not touch at all with landcruiser off set rims

My spare is a 31x10.5 r15 on the stock rims so it fits in the stock spare tire location ok. I havent tried one of the 32s in there yet. The backspacing on the 5 spoke alloys I have the 32s on is about 1" less than the stock rims. The alloys are about 3.75" backspaced

Rethink the dick cepec's, my prado has them and via some normal wheeling I have ripped a chunk from the outer layer of each front tyre.

They aren't a bad tyre for grip except for side slopes and mud but I won't buy them again.
