Ok here is my problem out at G/H on saturday and i absolutley shattered my left hand side CV, oil has poored out and now being able to turn left is impossible. i can turn right and return to centre but that is it. It feels as if it is jamming up as soon as i try to pass centre.
will the problem just be the broken CV or worse? and any ideas on were to start looking for this steering issue.

I'd pull it apart and remove all the broke bits. Then stuff a rag where the axle seal is and that will stop 'most' of the oil coming out until you can fit a new CV and axle seal.
When you blow a CV it will quite often damage the axle seal as well.
The quickest and easiest way to get into it is to remove the seals that seal the ball. 8 x10mm bolts including the steering stop. Then remove the brake caliper. Then undo the king pin bearings. You'll need to remove the free wheeling hub to undo the circlip that holds the axle in place.
Doing it this way means you don't have to touch the axle bearing which safes a lot of time.
With how many bit that will be in the housing if you've completely blown the cv, I would worry about anything untill you've cleaned that up. Be very careful as you have a mix of steel splinters and grease that is really nasty!

They're quite easy to replace but can be a bit daunting to the inexperienced. if you've got a mate who knows what they're doing then do it with them. If not by a gregory's manual and follow the directions. Once you're done you'll realise how simple it really was. Good practice because next time will probably be on the side of a muddy trail.
Most can replace them in the bush in 15-30mins easy.

normally when the race brakes in the C.V the balls will drop down into the gap in the swivel hub so when you try to turn the swivel hub jams on the ball.
If you strip the hub n wheel bearing down completely the first time, on a gq you can leave the brake backing plate off from behind the disk, put everything back but this, then next time you brake a CV just undo the brake caliper, free wheel hub, remove the snap ring on the CV stub shaft and undo the 6 bolts behind the disk with a 14mm open end spanner.
This way it is less work, the king pin bearings and wheel bearings stay together, so less chance of contamination.
Tools required after backing plate removed will be 8mm allen key, flag tip pliers, 14mm open end spanner, multi grips, 22mm socket and some rags.
i have pulled it out and there it was in i think i could count 11 pieces not including all the shrapnell, pretty dam good break ey. and a piece jammed in the swivel hence the locking up.. thanks for the help.......
