Just had a drive of a mates 1980's 2.4D Hilux single cab ute 4x4 and didnt mind it.
I am wondering if I got one myself wether I should look to the 2.8D. Does it perform better?
Thanks

2.4D vs 2.8D??

Allot better... a factory turbo 2.4 makes as much power as the non turbo 2.8... they are identical on the outside, the 2.8 has a slightly larger bore, and handle low boost turbo set-ups very nicely.

I have been considering this one. Without RWC as I am from Adelaide he will accept $6.5K. I would like to get some more out of it. Its got 2.8D, aircon and PAS which all work. The tray is off a 96 model and the bonnet off some turbo variant.+dj_hansen+ wrote:Allot better... a factory turbo 2.4 makes as much power as the non turbo 2.8... they are identical on the outside, the 2.8 has a slightly larger bore, and handle low boost turbo set-ups very nicely.

Not to sure if its too much. But seems about right for a 2.8.
Yeah the motor has been put in later its from a 96 vehicle. Everything is hooked up like the aircon and power steer. I am told its all legit and complied. Thats what I like about this vehicle. Not sure if at $6K its too much but later models with the 2.8 go for more.Dougster wrote:Could be wrong, but don't think a 2.8 was an origonal motor in a 88 hilux.
ive driven 2.4 turbs and they arnt too bad, slow but bareable, then i lined up my m8 in his runnin 2.4 and 8 psi againsnt mine stock 2.8 exhaust, and i blew the doors off him, then b4 when i had the other hilux with the 5L in in (3litre) that would beat my mates 2.8 turb with 10psi. dont get me wrong though the old 2.4's were a very very reliable motor indeed.
outcome, buy 88-96 mod and get a new 3litre like i did , wont regret it!!

The bonnet is not from any other Turbo Model. Its been made up. There was no difference in the bonnet on a Turbo Surf. Also this model Dual cab sufferes very badly from rust in the roof allong the gutters so i wouldnt buy it without seing it first. 6.5K also seams a lot of money for that model. You should be able to find an 89-90 dual cab 2.8 for the same sort of money.grepin wrote:I have been considering this one. Without RWC as I am from Adelaide he will accept $6.5K. yeh i totally didnt even comment on that, for 7.5 g's you could pickup newer shape with 2.8, i would throw 5 if not less at him for that. i payed 10 for mine 94 single cab bog stock everything in prinsine nick, only down was 300 on the clock but it still sounds fairly tight and dosent knock when cold. so yeh just keep in mind diesels run for yonks, but when buyin make sure you start it from cold as alot of ppl say 'oh we just had to go to the shop b4 you came' when really they are masking nasty cold start knocks and noises. i walk straight away from ppl that do that.
