lift kit and gas conversion

ok just new to all this stuff but looking at going to gas and was wondering how the 99 GU's go and is it best to take out which tank

and also how hard is it to put a lift kits on and which ones are the best for this car and what size dose everyone recommend

hey simone, i reckon all cars are pretty much the same with lpg conversions. with the rate of fuel prices soaring it is definatly worth while doing.

you will find most people have a 2" lift cause you can get the xstra hight without worring about to much other mods.

Do you plan on a 2" or 3" lift?
With the gas fitted it weighs a bit more then normal so make sure you take that into consideration when choosing coils. I would put it where you can fit the biggest tank. Someone else can help you better with that.

I would have to talk with you a bit more but I would probably recommend Dobinsons shocks because they give great control and well suited if you have a bit of load such as a gas tank.

If you like a soft ride then the Procomp shocks would be a better selection.

Lovells / EFS are somewhere in between.

Tough Dogs give great control also and are adjustable but you pay for it.

Bilsteins and Koni's have a good name but you pay for them too and really only suitable for a 2" lift.

For a 3" lift you would need to get long sway bar link pins and a brake hose on the rear and castor correction bushes, but you are best off with castor correction bushes for a 2" lift anyway but 90% of people don't bother for the 2" lift.

For anything over a 3" lift I recommed either Procomp shocks or Tough Dog shocks only.

For coils I suggest either Dobinsons or Lovells. It does depend a bit on what accessories you have.

As Shane says with a LPG tank it is usually a bit heavier than the standard fuel tank. The common thing to do is to replace the rear tank with a 120L (95 usable, as you can only fill to 85%) I havent heard of them making a LPG tank as a replacement for the sub tank, but it certainly is possible. You can however get a 70L aftermarket tank that replaces the sub tank. I have just put Dobinson coils and shocks (4") in and Im extremely pleased with how they perform. on road and offroad. I have put standard rate spings in the front and heavy duty in the rear as I have LPG. I still have to put a car load of camping gear in to see how they ride in the rear.
I do agree adjustable shocks are better. as I ran adjustable Ranchos in one of my previous patrols but I only found them good when loading up the rear.
Other than that you would barely change them one you find the setting you like
A 2" lift you can do without too much modification.
It all depends on what type of 4wding you want to do.

Ive notice the rear sink a bit but nothing packers wont fix

I run TD Big Bore adjustable shocks and I cant fault the setup.

If you remember the night on the beach when we camped with Heathx4 etc and U came and got us from the Cross to show us where you were camping... I have the maroon GU.
