Guys interested in peoples comments on the differnt 4 point harness that are out there.
Going in a entry level winch challenge truck


what would you recommend based on
saftey
quality
price.


I am currently looking at bolt in option as that is how my cage is designed so have been looking at the monza ones so hoping to get some more ideas from you guys.

Only the first 2 are relevant......saftey being the most important, but qualiy will come automatically if they are good in the safety department.

Never ever ever compromise safety......or you may only start one comp!

I have a 4 point in my WRXSTi that I use on the track but would get a 5 point at least., which I might do shortly. I find it will want to ride up and the 5th bottom belt would stop that.

I understand completly but there comes a point where you look at a monza for $100 and a sparco for $250 and based on looks and specs there is no difference ( to me anyway ) and you just wonder is the sparco 2 and hald times better or is it just a name thing.

if its in a vechile that you may roll go for a wider belt section even if cost more.

They cut in and F&%KING hurt if there to narrow.

i got 4 point sabelt ones from fleebay, which have a buckle like a normal seatbelt. Quick to do up and undo. 5 pionts are safer in a rollover, but take longer to do up.

Quite often, rally/race teams change them every 12 months, and you can get them cheap. Thats apparently where mine came from origionally.

when we where racing in the states , 2 years chuck em........

In and off road invironment , Mud water and all sorts of other crap I personally would change them out every year. I know, I know.....overkill,
but then I am very saftey oriented.......I have seen the result of a set letting go.
Most are dated, and the various codes have various use by dates.........

for winch class 4 point are good & not as complex in stressed race
conditions for the nav to get in & out of, I do agree definatly on the wider
straped styles,as they give you more support & have less of a chance of
cutting into you.. At this years OBC we hit a rock at speed (not to quick)
but the 2" harnesses took the skin off skidys sholders,with bruising to the bone,& put him in hospital for the day.,check yoru local sprint car clubs,
they are changing rules to a minamum of 4 point harnesses, if this is so,
there should be some good 2nd hand equiptment out there..

Is your car rego'ed , if it is only 4 point 50mm seatbelt type buckle's are legal , but if not disregard , Cheers Paul.

pigletracing is correct go the 4 point 3 inch as there easy to get in and out of, the fifth strap on a fve point is mainly to stop you from coming out under the belt at high speed stops. when buying the harness don't buy the one that has the buckle like a normal set belt cause when your hanging upside down with full body wieght hanging in the harness it is nearly impossible to unclip the belt and safty crews will just cut you out and as harb say quality does count in the safty for this reason, sprintcars have always had 5 point well in speedway anyway and the belts are dated with a life span that is also recorded in your log book

i got 2 sparco 6-points for $200 each about 8 months ago... better off going for 5 or 6 point, eventualy all rulings will be 5 point min and the extra bit of safety is worth it

rpm harness are great but in a roll over that latch will lock up. i had a set of rpm in my HQ street car and they rely on the pin same as the seat belt in the car i'd recomend them but see if you can get a set with quick release buckles this will help you get out in a roll over and in a comp 4x4 the risk for a roll over is there.
i used to sell automotive safty gear and got my supplies from speedzone and rpm we also used rocket ind and the biggest selling harness we sold was the rci 5point that retailed at $199 with a quick release and bolt in brackets

what price would you put on your life...... dont base the cost of a harness on Price

if you want a cheap harness i have an RPM Harness in the shed that you can have for a lazy $50.00

Price was listed as number three for the reasons you have all mentioned but price does come into at the end of the day. Im not talking about buying a $50 dollar harness here im more looking the $150-$200 range ( would love to get some of the others i looked at but at $300+ Its not in my price range)

i got a 2 ERG 5-pont harnesses 3" webbing so nice and wide. got them for $150 each

my car will be rego'ed so i have left the standard seatbelts in for street use to overcome that issue ;)

I would not get 2 inch belts, there is not much price difference with the 3 inch belts. Also i would get the 5 point ones just the added safety so that you dont slide under the belts.
Another consideration is that if the belts are going to be used in the dirt i would only get the hook and loop buckled ones as the others fail after getting dirt, dust and moisture in them.
Try these places for good belts and price

Aust Rally cars are 5 years from date of manufacture. As many are over a year old when supplied / bought, they get turned over. Most run 3" 5 point. You can buy these cheap. CAMS has the rules. Hit up your local car club for second handies.

If you plan on getting muddy / water (aka mud buggy racing) there is a drag race style that uses a totally external latch mechanism and a pin. Simple and works no matter if it gets filthy. But take longer. I prefer the "rotary dial" style.

Have these in my buggy and also know of a heap more people that run them.
Good price very comfortable. (even in big rolls they dont dig in due to the padding). And made buy a very reputable buisness.
Wouldnt use anything else now.

thats why i like the Simpson belts as Simpson make them when you order, if you buy through Jegs or Summit or even the Aussie suppliers that when you get "Old" Belts

most of the gear that i get are built to order including there helmets

as i said if you need Simpson gear & know who to ask you can get great prices ;) ;)

Find out what your winch challenge ADR requirements are.

I just printed off MMM's rule book, highlighted all the important points including harness ADR requirements and built the car to those specs.

You might want to look at the ccda rule book depending on what your doing.

I havn't seen any rotory dial harneses in any dvd's, and for good reason, they were never meant to have the navigator jumping in and out of the car multiple times in "ONE" stage.

you are going to burn up alot of time looking for all those straps after a winch. blokes are even holding the shoulder straps of a 4 point buckle type with elastic to make entry quicker.

We are currently running a 3" 5 point camlock harness in our drag car. Bought it from Jegs in the U.S but at the moment I'd go for Summit as they are quicker for shipping (choose USPS for shipment when ordering)

Around about $250 I think. That was two years ago. ANDRA requires harnesses to be changed every three years so we'll be getting ride of this one soon. Did have a 3" lever latch harness but think dad got rid of it.
