Anybody done it on gq lwb ? In the long term I am gonna have to do it in order to properly refurb body mounts /chassis with welder. Next year I would be under truck with Mig and some areas are getting harder to get into.........particularly the rear crossmember.
Ideally I would like to suspend body and wheel chassis/engine out. I could then properly cut out sections....make templates and use plasma cutter to make new sections for welding in. No fire hazzard and no welding upside down lying on your back.
I know guys will say look for another truck. In UK there aren`t many really good Y60s.
I have some strong steel rafters overhead which would take weight of bodyshell. Anyone guess the weight? Or I wondered if I could jack Body high enough and put tubes from one wheelarch through to the other and support it on stands back and front. Any ideas appreciated.

This is what I used
I am only running a short wheel base and the two bars hold it easily (the prop on the other side is to stop the body from bouncing when on it's side), they bolt into the body mounts and I can move the bars around forward or back if they are in the way of where I am repairing. I made the bars from 50 x 50 x 3.2 mm square steel and the body is light enough that I can tip it either way on my own if needed. The 45 deg angle on the ends of the bars is so I can have it sitting half way up (with a prop), this makes it soooo much easier for sanding panels than being on your Knees.

Well if I could pan out about 6 meters you would see it sitting outside the garage, I'm doing a complete strip and rebuild and getting the hard bit out of the way first. Those pics were taken in the sixth month 07 and that part of the body is now finished. About three months and I will have the full build up to go in here.

I havn't started on the chassis yet so I don't have any decent pics but this one will give you the general idea (not my picture)

Thanks guys . Heath..... 200 kilos aint bad with doors off . Those are serious jack up sills and rocksliders. Great to see the Patrol stripped and shows it can be done same as a Rover.
I was going to go back to Rover as you can get a galvanised chassis cheap in UK. If I can get Y60 exposed like that pic I will make chassis good for a long time. As we all know...Patrols are better
