Legal Tyre Sizes for GQ in QLD

Post by Dicko1980 »

Hi

I've ordered my black 16x8 ROH Sunraysia's today and am tossing up on what size tyre to fit, 265's or 285's. I know that the 265's have a higher ply rating but am worried if they will look abnormal on the wider rims. I would like to go for 285's but I would like to be legal if possible in QLD but the car will spend its majority of time in the Pilbara in WA. What opinions are out there for the tyre size? I'm thinking of giving the MTZ's or FC-11's a run for a change instead of fitting ST's again.

Cheers

Hmm, I think that it will be 265/75R16 or 235/85/r16 depending on wether you have the flares or not.

Many if not most would be running an incorrect size IMHO. I know I am.

You can't go any bigger then stock because the next size up is more then 15mm. Stock is 31".
Most get away with 33" tyres as long as they are within the guards so that is what most run but it is not legal.

By the end of the year it is looking like Qld will adopt the new rules which will make it 2" bigger in diameter so 33".

The 265/75/16 are equivalent to a 32" tyre.

265 X 75% X2=397.5mm add this to
16" X 25.4=406.4mm

Total = 803.9mm

Convert this back to inches 803.9 /25.4 = 31.65" which is actually a bit bigger then most 32" tyres.

we worked out that 33bighorns on 15 inch rims are with in 15mm allowed if you cross match them to the std 7.50x16 if that helps but if they change it so 33 are cool to have and the info fiters down to the people that actually pull you over that would be good ;)
