Hi i am looking at buying a early to mid 90s rangie can anyone tell me if there are any common probs with them i have owned 6 rangies previously but they were all in the early to mid 80s and i own a disco now but want to sell that.i was tossing up between a rangie and an 80 series cruiser (i had a weak moment lol ) and the weak moment left me so have decided on the range rover and help appreciated guys

Personaly id find the best 84 mod ya can as there much beta to work on than the later ones no fancy EFI or silliy gadgets to shyte them self and if ya want a flash one find a later one wreaking and swap out the interior and you get the best of both worlds :D :D :D

Late 84 phase 2 or 85 were the best years imho, 1 piece front door glass, tacho in dash, hi comp 3.5 carby with few electrics, better seats etc.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

Yep i have one of each the last of the phase 1 with a 4.4 AKA grumpy

Also a phase 2 85 with carbs about to recive a 4bd1 and LT95 and rear sals :D :D :D

I also wanted an early 90s but have decided to stick with the 89. The late 80s seem to be pretty reliable. I wouldnt get anything with air suspension myself.

best vintage Rangies would be like lokka mentioned (late 84-85's with no EFI crap) and if you want omething a bit better, the early 90's (til mid 92 pre EAS and ABS brakes). These have the 3.9 with better EFI and more relibale electrical components (for Rangies that is :? ). The upper SE spec have all the frills while good they can be a dead set PIA with dodgy sunroof leaks, electric seats packing it in, etc...

I owned a 93 Vogue plus with air suspension and ABS brakes (non leather) for 5 years and it was the best Rangie I've owned to date. I would still have it if I hadn't rolled it :x :x

I owned a 93 Vogue plus with air suspension and ABS brakes (non leather) for 5 years and it was the best Rangie I've owned to date. I would still have it if I hadn't rolled it
I totally agree Trav.
I still have my 92 Vogue. NO ABS NO Air suspension.No electrical problems.
Just about to fit a pair of Ebay Recaros.

I have a coil sprung 93rrc Abs works sweet ETC works sweet. I used to have an 86rrc with hotwire efi 3.9 and they 93 shits all over that car in comfort, build quality and performance. (mind you the 4.6 probably does help abit.... :D )

Thanks for the tips guys will be looking at around the 90 model now when i can find one anyway like hens teeth here in country WA..There is one but not answering either number rhey have given supposed to be totally original 90 model vogue 7k yet to see it though

I would buy another if I could find one for the right price (a bit earlier than Aquarangie, pre ABS) so I could re-fit my maxi's and 4.11's, etc.. onto it.

Still the 87 I have now is a solid beast, but still not the Aquarangie (shit I miss it :cry: :cry: :cry: ).

Where abouts are you in WA Russ? Im in perth and if you scope out the auto trader and quokka they pop up from time to time.

I paid $6300 for my 93. I had to fix the AC and Cruise Control but apart from a couple of suspect suspension bushes and 2 dodgy ABS relays everything works like a charm. I even managed to code a brand new Keypad to the alarm/imobiliser and that all works a treat. Even the sunroof work 100%.

Unfortunatly my Fiance cooked the 3.9 driving up green mount so the wolf injected 4.6 went it and i honestly believe all rangies should have been factory fitted with 4.6's.

If your not mechanically inclinded and dont like tinkering with you Rangie DEFINATLY look for an honest unmolested car with service history. Im the the third over of my rangie and it had a full history upto 213k when i bought it.

The only none stock addition was the coils.

If you find a decent car in the metro area get somebody like rovertech or discovery automotive to check it out for you and you should have a fair idea of what your getting.

Hiya Luke, I live in Collie mate its great down here some of the best 4wdin 5 mins drive and some good marroning to haha..I have checked all the usual spots for rangies but nothing has grabbed my attention yet.As for being mechanically minded having owned 6 rangies and a disco i have learnt a thing or 2 about them haha even some things nobody would want to know haha nah i do all my own work i am an untrustworthy prick when it comes to leaving my car for someone else to fix .
If ya can mate keep your eyes open up your way for me if ya could i dont mind a drive to check out a car.
There is one in bunbury with a 4.6 in it could be worth a look if ya reckon they are good motors i wasnt to sure

To those who might be interested, I have a 93 vogue sitting in the garage collecting dust!!!! I would like to sell it as I no longer have time to do what I had planned (another baby on the way).

It is a 93 Range Rover plus, with all the usual options in excellent condition, inc front and rear ARB bars, driving lights, rear ARB diff lock with bigger axels and 2" springs and shocks. I would be happy to send pictures and answer any other questions.

I am looking for about 8500 ono

Well had a look at one in Bunbury and well it had a 2inch spring lift and a 2 inch body lift 4.6 litre on gas 33x12 muddies arb bull bar,spotties,uhf radio,all the usual 89 vogue stuff $6500 all sounds very good huh lol...What an absolute piece of shit why the hell do people just plain out straight lie no wonder this fella has had it for sale for ages as he said.The 4.6 was apparently a 3.9 with a aftermarket computer dunno?.was apparantly a NEW gearbox 5 spd shit if i bought a new box and it had that much play in it i would be taking it back newly installed in that car maybe lol..The steering well that left something to be desired reminded me of a 66 model landrover shorty i had..I know rangies have all the usual oil leaks but well the chassis would never rust had that much over it..harmonic balance just running out of there after a short drive G/Box,transfer ,swivel hubs what a mess..The interior was average centre consul borken none of the elec window switches sat in place the cosul lid was on the back floor torn off ,the drivers seat didnt work correctly didnt lower or slide back im 6ft2 head was hitting roof knees were around ears haha very comfortable driving position was told everything inside was excellent and all worked very well..why the hell bullshit so much i will never understand....The search continues

I am not bullshitting anyone, my Rangie is the complete opposite to what you describe. Kermit from Rangie Automotive in Lilydale had a look at mine a few weeks agao and siad it was the best he had seen!!!! I don't need to bullshit, I have a Rangie in original condition, if any one is interested just give me a call.
