could some1 scan their manual for me as i have been conned into doin my mates 100 000km service on his lux and timing belt i have never done much on these engines and some info / procedures would be much appreciated

piece of piss to do. I recomend replacing tensioner bearing, cam shaft seal and crank shaft seal while you have it pulled apart.
# Pull radiator out.
# Put a socket on the crank bolt and try to losen it. May need a rattle gun, if you don't have one use a braka bar and put a extension pipe on the end and lay against chasis and give the moter a crank with the key.(MAKE SURE NOT TO START)
# Pull harmonic balancer off with a puller
# Take off timing belt cover (air con can be in the way but work around it)
# Put socket on camshaft bolt and wind over to line up timing marks. Crank is on to of pulley, cam is under pulley and pump is on top of pulley.
# If changing seals losen cam bolt. Otherwise leave alone.
# Losen tensioner and remove spring.
# Pump will move when tension is off.
# Bearing will only cost around $50 from bearing shop.
# Might be good to replace idler pulley bearings.(these are standard bearings from bearing shop.)
# Seal you can get from bearing shop aswell but get high temp seals (these are red in colour)
# time to put back together
# If you took off cam pulley don't tighten bolt till the belt is tensioned (BUT DON"T FORGET TO TENSION - Speaking from experience)
# Pump can be a pain to get the timing mark correct as it is under load and may need a socket or spanner to hold it in place.
# When back together, wind over 3 times and check the timing marks again. When correct double check bolts.
# Replace timing cover and rediator.

i did mine one saturday, its a really easy job actually, as mentioned before the hard part is getting the timing marks lined up as the pump wants to spring back, and the timing mark on the crank is sometimes hard to see. When you have to reset the timing belt light in the dash there should be a rubber bung next to your trip meter reset button, remove that and use a screw driver to press the little button behind it. Thats the way it was on my 2.8 hilux anyways.

5L motor is slightly different in its reset- you have to remove the sodding dash!
And $110- Are you sure its a 5L 3.0L diesel, and not the 1KZ-TE 3.0TD motor?
The KZ is about 20 minutes, 2 sockets and an allen key to replace!

i am 80% sure thats all it was, thats why i went there. i will have to c if i can find the receipt. It was 2 years ago.i got mine done at toyota, chepest place only $110 ish for memory.
$110, you gotta be joking? I wouldn't even bother unlocking my toolbox...

You sure they didn't just replace a fan belt?
