Will extractors/exhaust system be much of a power improvmn?

Hey all,
thinking about have extractors and 2inch sports exhaust fitted on my 1.3 sierra engine.....will there be much of a difference or is there a better way to spend $900 to improve power.

Also if i end up having a 1.6 efi vita engine installed, can i retain any of the exhaust/extractors or will i have to start over???

Yes, it does make a difference.

Your crazy if you are willing to pay $900 for that though. Might be wise to get a few more quotes.

yea i thought that was a bit excessive........after doing some ringing around $800 was the cheapest(some were over $1000.00). i was looking at getting a 4WD mechanic to do it but they are more expensive then your regular exhasut specialits....besides, its not really something that a 4WD specialist needs to do...pretty simple stuff.................does anyone know anywhere in sydney with a bit more of a reasnoable price?????

u will need new extractors with the 1.6 efi.

but exhasut will be ok.

I was quoted $400 bucks for extractors and exhaust system on mine! Keep looking mate.

i have extractors and 2inch system on mine and did not notice any powere gains just sounds like it coz its louder most times u wont notice any gain in power

Autospeed did a muffler comparisson test to see what they could gain by swapping out the exhaust from the cat back. The sierra was one of two test vehicles and they said that quite simply that swapping out the mufflers increased noised and reduced very little in backpressure on the stock setup. Save the $900 and put aside for the engine swap. Once thats done and dusted you can do a cat back muffler if you want (extractors on a 1.6l seems like a waste imho)

after reading those comments and a quick searc of the bible......looks like i wont bother with the exhaust/extractors.......guess im now saving for a new engine..........thanks for the help people....much appreciated

Unless you are upgrading the intake and cam, the difference won't be big on the 1.3 as it really needs all three mods to make it really work.

I had just extractors fitted and noticed a different in the upper rev range. Not much use for the slow 4WDing but it certainly made a difference out on the highway.

Theres a workshop in the outter west that i got to install them. Cost me $370 total

Don't forget that if you want your extractors and exhaust to increase power, you need to increase the amount of air that goes into the engine as well. I drilled two holes with a hole saw on either side of the air cleaner box (about 2 inches wide) and that helped heaps ! And when I drive across water, I just use PVC pipe plugs the same size as the holes to make everything watertight again.
I got better throttle response, much better top speed and better fuel economy doing all that. Oh, and the sound it makes...
All up, it cost me $190 for the extractors and whatever a Lukey muffler to fit goes for which isn't a fortune. I also bought 3 meters of 2 inch exhaust tube and cut and welded it myself.

it make it rev a bit easier. and i think that a 2" zorst makes more difference powerwise than the extractors do.
i wouldnt pay more than $200 for extractors and about $300 to fit with a 2" zorst
