Post by Sandy Rut »

mate i had an oex 100a alt in my wagon. bolted and plugged straight in as a direct replacement. think it might have been to suit tb45 in the cattledog

You will need to start flicking through catologues to find something with the same mouting and maybe need to mod the wiring. Best bet go to you local parts shop with your alt off the car measure it up and find one that suits.

Can be harder that you think.

Good luck

BTW it is OEX brand you may find one in that cat.

So your saying that a big boss compressor draws a constant 50 amps plus the residual amps in the battery.

Wow I would get the compressor checked before I blame the alt

and yeah the TB45 in the OEX cat should fit your GQ and are 100 amp

have you worked out your current draw to find out what you really need?

V=IR

Amps = watts divided by volts ( someone correct me if I am wrong)
so 1 100w spot light will draw 8.3amp's

so if the GQ runs 50 amp standard so car draw will be under 75% of that so with 100amp thats a max rating usually for about 10 sec burst take 15% off that so 85 amp continuious take your 35amps to run the standard stuff you will have 50amp left over or enough to run 6 100w lights at once

you get the idea

The BOSS Compressor could draw up to 60Amps at startup at pressure.

99 GU ST 4.2 Turbo Diesel, Non Intercooled, Tigerz11 w/synthetic, 35"' Bighorns, ARB Compressor, Snorkel.

Thats 60amp at start up burst with a charged battery a normal car battery will handle the 60amp burst with out an alt on it. We are talking constant draw here not start up draw

from my understanding the alt cant charge the battry fast. in the time it take to charge the battry. On the second battry i have CB UHF air compressor. if i upgrade the alt then it will charge the battry in time before it goes flat with the load off it.

Blkmav not 100% sure always take you original alt and measure to make sure but I am 94.79% sure ;)

Stevo correct the alt does take time to charge the battery but when you hook something up it draws off the alt first then the reserves in the battery.
