Does anyone know of a good mod to stop the Ball Joint failure on rangies ?
I'm sick of fixing it ! The last one just tore the nut, split pin and all off! This was a new HD large nut type ! with a good tapered mounting hole ?
Anyone got any tried suggestions? Pics would be good .

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
Tony at AJG has an aftermarket one bit better than standard but I have not tested one.

John Davis motorworks and Maxi-drive used to sell greasable re-buildable ball joints.
I buggered mine within about two years. Grabbed a second hand standard joint (I got fox nix) and pulled it apart with an angle grinder.
The standard and the greasable ball joints are completely different sizes, however I managed to combine the two using bits and pieces. Used the greasable housing and the standard bottom ball joint. Worked well for another two or so years.
Then went and grabbed another new standard joint. Used it for a bit. Pulled it out, drilled the top, tapped and screwed in a grease nipple. That was only six montha gao so cant really comment on it yet, other than it is still ok.

ball joint
g'day Scun I use the maxidrive greasable ball joint had if for over two years no problems at all still like brand new. Maybe you need a spacer like in the photo above
defender 110,4.6,auto,36simex,maxidrive everything. "JEEP" your right, I dont understand????
Correct, they arent legal.KiwiBacon wrote:Sounds like you're having binding issues. Until you sort those out changing the joint itself is never going to help.
I can't imagine a threaded heim joint like the one above being roadlegal either in Oz or NZ.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
I have just ordered a spacer from www.rovertym.com...
Are you sitting down?....$280 delivered to my door in Brisbane.
IT should fix my issues with binding at the ball joint.
ps..I have a 3" spring lift on a rangie
Cheers

Thanks for the response . I think it must be binding or something ,
the amount of force to tear large threads and crack the castle nut
must be intense ! I found the nut on the track a few meters back.
I've only got a 2'' lift and every time this breaks I,m nailing it UP hill!
Maybe I should try the spacer with another new HD joint .
I think I,ll make my own $280 sounds criminal , was that the QT one ?
