Winch Repairs

Post by loopy31 »

Anyone out there give me a clue how to check which piece of my Warne winch is broken and any simple remedies.. Currently it doesnot spool on power but just gives a very satisfying "click" from the control box when either in reverse or forward. Any handy hints? apart from take it back to ARB where I bought it (as always, its just out of warranty!)
Cheers Ian

can you free spool it? pull it down (or at least the motor off) and check for mud or seized shaft bearing on the end of the motor.

also check the bruches etc are all good. could be a solenoid issue also but warns aint waterproof!

Pull the clutch lever ( engager ) out and see how much grease is on it and what colour.I had the exact same thing happening with my t-max and twice it was the control box with the first time it wouldn't do anything (no noise) but this time it stopped in the middle of the logan challenge and would only winch out I put a brand new control box in and clicks both in and out so the box is fine power comes out when you press in and out .Pulled the winch apart and the motor was full of dirt and dust the gears were still greased but it was brown and oily so i got it before the rust $150 later at opposite lock FIXED.

could do it yourself but for $100-200 they totally service it

In QLD.
Yes I can free spool.
Will have a look at clutch lever later today. Guess it may be worth taking the thing off and having a look at the motor etc...
Thanks everyone. Worse case looks like it goes in for fixing!
