Vitara Gearbox to a Sierra, Is it worth it....
I have a 5 speed Vitara box thinking about putting into my 91 WT sierra, running a 1.6lt efi
What is involved?
Any hassles trying to put it in?
Any difference between the Sierra 5 speed or 5 speed Vitara?
thanks ahead guys

Vitara Gearbox to a Sierra, Is it worth it....
have you had a look at the 2 different g/boxes next to each other?? or done any measuring?
I think that will answer most of your question

I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.
he Vitara box is bulkier and requires a custom tailshaft adapter as the vitara transfer is bolted to the back of the gearbox. also probably meaning jackshaft and gearbox crossmember work.
Not worth the effort IMHO. I don't believe it's substantially stronger and doesn't have better gearing (ie a lower 1st)
Steve.

I did this swap to mine because I originally had a 1 litre donk and box which meant crossmember and tunnel work to get a 1.3 box in, so I just went straight for the 1.6 box.
You will need 3" of bodylift or more to clear the tunnel unless you are prepared to cut it ( which I did) and you will also beed a custom cross member. Also, you will have to mod the jackshaft to keep the sierra transfer case. I don't recommend using the vit one as the gearing is crap, and the outputs are splined slip joints, not flanges.
My 2 cents.

Gearbox only without transfer. Larger clutch and heavier flywheel make it worth it.
I unpicked the tunnel spot welds and widened it.
The jackshaft is a cut down sierra and will slip straight into the vit output shaft which has its own seal, it winds up short enough that balancing was not required.
I made a plate which bolts where the transfer was and then 50x50 angle then holds a mount which bolts to the origional x member.
The origional shifter hole has an alloy plate over it and the new shift comes out where the tunnel slopes down to the transfer shift.
