Falcon EFI six into 2H HJ47?

Post by Vineboy »

My 1984 HJ47 with a 2H is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. I'ts not a daily driver but I like to look after it.

Since a 2H rebuild is $$$ can a EFI Ford 4 or 4.1 go in without to many dramas and has anyone done it?

I'm not worried about the petrol V diesel thing.

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

Cheaper to rebuild the 2H properly than the expense of swapping in a ford and switching to petrol.

My option would be to go to the 1HZ from a later Troopy or similar.

Lots of solutions all at different costs.

i converted from a 2f fj40 to a 250xflow using a rodshop kit
i hated the kit mainly the engine mounts as they meant i couldnt use any standard 250 brackets so it was custom for aircon and power steer

if i was gonna do it again id use a 250 and a c4 auto then get the transfercase adapter and custom make all the mounts so i could use more factory engine parts

Dellows only did a bellhousing conversion kit to suit replacing the 2F, not a 2H, I suspect you'd have to speak to them to see if they do it to suit the diesel box. My conversion has been a peice of piss so far. Only stumbling block so far is dealing with Smartlock. There is a bypass for it, I think mine is just faulty, if the replacement one solves the problem then its still a very straight forward conversion.

Switching to petrol wouldn't be any more difficult or involved than switching from carby to efi. Fuel hoses, pumps, surge tank and filters. Clean out your diesel tank and you're done.

Please tell me thats a mistake. My 2F to EF I6 kit cost me just over a grand. Whats "everything bar the motor"?

Thanks guys. I was interstered with the Smartlock problem. not something I even knew about. What if you use an earlier motor say out of a EA?

Following your thread with great interest Ray.

Yeah EA is fine too, quite a few have done the EA into MQs and 40s and all sorts of vehicles. Were they all CPI? Advantage of the later model stuff is multipoint injection and in the case of EL, no distributor (plus more power than the older engines obviously). Don't let smartlock worry you. I just got a replacement by-pass for it (the first one I got was dodgy) and it fired straight up. Piece of piss to install too.

But as BJ said, see whats wrong with yours. My 2F was shagged as you may have seen in the pics on my buildup. Would have kept that engine forever if it hadn't decided to retire.
