TYre choice

Post by gqmad »

Hi Guys,
I have a tj with a 4" lift and am wanting some new tyres.
At the moment it has a set of mtr's with 4.11 diff gears.
I have a set of brand new 35x11.5x16 simex centipeded from my patrol but have been told if i fit them up I will break axles etc on the jeep.
Other tyres Im considering are the 33x12.5 swamper or a 33 " centipede, possibly a 33"claw.
If i go the 35" tyres how much more lift will i need to make these tyres fit. will a 1.25 boddy lift do the trick

I've just bought some 4.11's from wooders for my TJ to run my 31's a bit more comfortably. Some say that 4.56 is perfect for 33's.

Remember that aussie TJ's came with 3.07's so 4.11's are gonna be better but i've got 2 or 3 mates with 4.56's in theirs with 33's and love it but one mate has just gone up to 35's with his 4.56's and is happy to stay there for a while.

cheers

PS, nissans are boring, i used to own one *shudders* :)

My TJ's been running 35" muddies since 1999. and I often swap over to 36" TSLs for playing. (since about 2004).
During that time I have bent 1 rear stock axle and broken one front uni (which took out the shafts). I now have bent the front housing - but not enough to make it undrivable.
The only changes I have made are lockers and lower diff ratios - heck I still run stock shafts. But now there are a LOT of upgrades so it can be beefed if you want (I had new axles so didn't care).

Dunno if these pics help my case - but think it shows the abuse fairly well ;)
