Gen III conversion

I am just about to embark on a Gen III implant into an 89 GQ 4.2 petrol vehicle. I intend to use the original nissan manual gearbox.
I will be purchasing all the adapter products from marks adapters.
Can anyone give any tips or tricks? How have you found marks adapters products? ie Fit??

well i know a guy that put a gen 3 in his ute, instead of getting expensive custom headers made up apparently you can get the standard 6 litre ones to fit in much easier. i know they're not gonna give you the most possible horsepower in the universe but they're pretty cheap if you buy em from the wreckers!

The fitment of standard manifolds would only work with very high engine placement as they hit the chassis rails. A lot depends on where you locate the engine, the Marks adapter is quite long, I'd suggest you also look at Dellow as this is shorter and may give you more room around the front if desired, moving the engine forward would allow more room for the exhaust though, a lot of it depend s on preference and application.

the marks kit is alright but the exhaust is a major problem for me. trying to get someone to build custom headers is impossible where i live so i have to move the engine mounts so that a pre built manifold can fit and i dont know if i can.
On the 4wd monthly web site in their forum there is a good build up of a gq with a gen 3 in it its called the chevrick check it out.
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

i used VE 6L manifolds. they had to be modified but are easy to weld as they are cast steel not cast iron. VZ manifolds will not fit.

I have a 2 inch body lift and I used a Dellow bellhousing. The engine sits high to clear the manifolds but it has plenty of sump clearance. I paid $120 for the VE manifolds, a lot cheaper than paying for custom made extractors.

What did everyone do about speed sensors? I understand that you need some sort of speed sensor setup to enable the ecu to function properly.

Do you have VE 6L or VZ 6L manifolds, because they are different and the VZ won't fit.

I dont run a speed sensor and the engine runs fine without one. It likes a drink around town though.

My engine is out of a 04 HSV R8 clubsport.

You'll probably find the lack of speed sensor and high fuel consumption related.

BowtieGQ yea ya right this is one cause and probably the other is my heavy right foot. Its ok out on the road though. One method of fixing the speed sensor issue is to fit a marks match box and the ECU will pick up a signal from that, but I haven't worried about that yet.

just help a mate put one in and we bought an extorer kit from a company it come with all the bends and the header plates as well as the collectors and 3 bolt flanges for the bottom of the collector a little work geting them right but you end up with a nice set of block huging pipes ithink the kit cost around 300

Ok the engine is in. The VE 6l manifolds slightly modified as per Gouldy,s photos worked a treat. Auto elec has done wiring.Engine turns over but will not fire. Tech tool will not talk to ecu. We are not sure if this is due to the fact that we are not running the holden BCM.Can anyone shed some light on how they overcome this issue?

Hi to the forum
A quick question corect me if I am wrong but the commodore gen 3 and gen 4 motors have the sumo at the front where as the tb42 has it at the back?
While the motors fit or do you have to change sumps.
This is for a GQ with no body lift.
