2008 Son of Trials
Moderator: evanstaniland
I will be chatting to the organisers tommorrow on some other stuff, so will endeavour to get a few things mentioned here clarified.
The X-90 may just scrape in under the 4 inch rule (only runs 31s and it's about as big as a grasshopper's foreskin anyway ) ... we've had to drop it a bit due to driveline issues... if all is good... I'm in
Would pulling the fuse on the compressor for the Air Lockers suffice as proving them to be disabled? (got lockers front and rear)

Re: son
I was always going just not competing due to i have 35's, lift lockers etc and thought i might leave it to other people to compete and run a event instead. Let people with standard type cars win something.MUD80D wrote:turbo gu wrote:I think you will throughly dissapointed with the tracks if you take you trucks thunder/mud000. well ok then YOU STAY HOME AND WE WILL HAVE FUN
If Chris has said a 10 inch lift is fine go for gold.
Yes Squik pulling the fuse is fine. besides i hope the X90 dosen't need lockers for these track

Re: son
You're more than welcome to turn up, just don't expect anything challenging to drive with your truck, thats all. The tracks are all designed to be driven by standard vehicles without sustaining damage - that's the idea anyway.MUD80D wrote:turbo gu wrote:I think you will throughly dissapointed with the tracks if you take you trucks thunder/mud000. The emphasis is on running an event that attracts and enables people who own standard or slightly modified 4WD's to enter and hence give them a chance to enjoy driving their vehicles in an "off the sealed road, engage 4WD & lock the hubs" friendly, casual competition. This then will hopefully be an enjoyable introduction for them into the awesome world of 4wding that we all know.
Its also a great test of driver skill for those of us who are used to driving bigger rigs with lockers and crawlers and big lifts etc. Get yourself behind the wheel of your (or someone else's) standard or near standard vehicle and see how good a driver you really are!

You are making the assumption we don't know what to expect. We have been involved with Chris running very similar events, one of them on that very property. We aren't expectng any Woodpecker-style challenge, we are coming for the fun of it, since we usually end up running these things and missing out on that bit. Don't assume everyone who drive big competitive vehicles doesn't want to have fun too
Re: s
No one is making assumptions, just merely trying to be as informative as possible on what to expect at the event.4x4chrissy wrote:You are making the assumption we don't know what to expect. You mean you don't have fun driving big competitive vehicles? That's a real shame
They are funkhana type events and last year they had stuff like;thunder wrote:it is more FUN playing in these type of events than the big ones.
im trying to get the new g/f to drive but she wont.
what type of events are there??
better be fires allowed
- balancing a golf ball in a dish on the bonnet of your truck whilst driving around a track.
- driving a track mostly in reverse, including up and down hills.
- driving a dry river bed of good sized rocks, boulders, logs and holes around a tightly marked track.
- swapping cans on poles around a figure 8 track.
and others similar to this. Ideal for everyone to have a go at!
Of course there is also the 'Climb For Cash' which is always entertaining!
There will be plenty of us girls there to help you cajol her into drivingthunder wrote:it is more FUN playing in these type of events than the big ones.

....And the X-90 passes For once sagging suspension is an advantage
Jess... navvy for me dudette!
I've also had confirmed that just pulling the fuse on the compressor for airlockers in 'disabled' enough

have fun all. was going to take the lux for its first comp drive at s.o.t. but unfortunately i drove the lux up the back of a suburu. now ive stopped all mods and am in damage control so no fun for me til its all fixed. its a shame for me. everyone have a good time and have a drink for me.

Yep... and we had the guts to take THE HARDEST LINES POSSIBLE, nearly ending up on our roof to test a type of vehicle that has NEVER been seen on the comp circuits.bogged wrote:woman driver and navi?turbo gu wrote:the X90 did win. Last Place. It scored 700 odd points. The real winner scored 15 points total We didn't think it was possible for someone to get it that wrong
Jessie was busy doing in-car camera, so she was kind of busy... We weren't there to win, simply to test the X-90, do some filming and have fun. Navigation was actually our last priority.
You try getting a SWB, IFS vehicle WITHOUT USING LOCKERS through stuff that has been chewed up by people in larger vehicles or driven by newbies spinning holes... there were a couple of cars there that had competed in Nissan Trials but were running on smaller tyres over the weekend. We got two perfect scores and drove lines that other people refused to have a go at...
Take a pic of the X-90 standing next to a GU with the allowable FOUR INCHES lift and 33in tyres and then try and say it is a level playing field.
To top it off... we didn't break anything
So....Stick that in your exhaust pipe, baby

What, spend lots of money and buy a big 4WD so I can take the easy way out? Where's the challenge in that?
Nahhh... Zooks are for people that aren't afraid of angles and who have nothing to compensate for
We had a ball, and that's all that matters

"Suzuki - Half the size, twice the guts"

Don't know about compensating for anything but if you have big guts you need a big truck+ Thats my theory anyway

Ahhhh.... since the dawn of time the Big Truck - Little Truck debate has raged
Our cameraman is about 6'3 in bare feet and quite a big bloke... I have a funny shot of him 'folded' into the passenger seat of the X-90
Hey... we won a Garmin GPS (Thanks GPSOZ )... so we should do better next year

Goddess of Self Esteem Issues!
Nahh... I reckon drivers of smaller cars have more guts... They don't need to rely on big trucks and big mods to get where they want to go. They rely on their own skill as a driver... And I think Squik and I did a great job of doing just that.turbo gu wrote: Don't know about compensating for anything but if you have big guts you need a big truck+ Thats my theory anyway

'sif it wasn't fair. The Rangie only has a built V8, coils, flex and a mad Navi
Was interesting for me anyways, first time in a semi built Rangie. That climb out of event 2 (i think) wasn't overly smooth and the red beast did it nicely (with some big right Glenno boot.) I'd imagine it'd climb like a mountain goat with the lockers on and some air out of the tyres!
