If you check your oil regularly there's no way it should be able to burn enough oil to loose oil pressure unless it's really really worn.
Sierra motors will normally run 160-200K before getting this bad. My guess - if it's been towed and only used occasionally (and its over 20 years old) I reckon it will have suffered from lack of servicing/condensation/dust ingestion.
check your oil and monitor consumption. If it's more than about 1litre per 1000k you have a motor on the way out.
