so i get home from toolangi the other day didnt go through any mud holes and started to grease the uni joints and notice that the rear diff is leaking oil around the pinion. put a new pinion seal in yesterday and it pisses oil out worse that what it was to start with. i couldnt feel any slop/movement in the pinion. what should i do? what could it be?
thanks in advance.
Could be a new defective, wrong part number, a burr on the yoke, faulty install (happens to the best of us), etc.
I would swap it out and check those things while ya' got the yoke off...
better to look the fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt :flippoff:
You might need to put a speedy sleeve on the pinion, the old seal would have left a groove, when you put the new seal in it is probably not quite in the same spot as the old one, there pretty easy to install...also check your diff breather is not blocked
I put a speedi sleave in it and put another seal in, took it for a 10 minut drive and it had one tiny drop of oil, any ideas now? thanks for your help to.
john
If the seal is of the type that consists of a metal ring with a rubber ring on the inside (like timing case oil seals and axle shaft oil seals), don't forget to put stag paste or silastic (I find stag is better) on the metal part of the seal that contacts the diff housing.
