SWB Side Window Frame Rust (New Aluminum Frames $100-$120)
SWB Side Window Frame Rust (New Aluminum Frames $100-$120)
Does anyone know if the rear window frames come out. Got some rust in the frame not very bad but still it is rust. I know that this is common to this model, I pulled the rubber around a bit and am assuming that is what is holding in the frame. If this is the case could you get a custom bit of glass to fit and remove the slider type window?
** Just an update to this Post. I have found Aluminum Frames for $120 or if we can get 5 people $100... 10 people or more $90 Read on **
Note : This is per Frame so you would need 2 All are Powder coated. Felt is included but not the rubber that holds them in.
Nissan wants about $450 Per Side

I called Nissan you can get new Frames Rubbers etc. Over $400 per side not including rubbers etc. And oh yea don't forget the felt. I am thinking about getting glass made and rubber so it fits in the side no frame. The guy said that new Frames last about 10 years... Humm 25 year old truck think by that stage it will be a comp ute

yea thats kewl, apparentl that was the go, but his prices werent cheap, would be cheaper to get second handers from wrecker.. good if your keeping it 20 years!
Ta
Yea I will give him a call and find out the price, not sure at this stage what to do this Patrol has the leas amount of rust I have seen in an 88 so I might just pull the frame out and fix what I can get new Rubber even drop it in Gal I will post what I come up with....
DX's come standard with a solid rear window instead of the sliding type.
Unless you really need the extra ventilation, I would consider replacing with the solid window.
No more sealing / rusting problems and a lot cheaper to replace if busted.
Here are a couple of pics of my rear windows ( and how cool does it look on the TSLs )

Dirtpigs,,
Can you please tell me what size tyres you have there on that whitebeast and what you did re suspension,,i've been reading heaps but only have 2" on the sus. at this stage,,trying to get an idea of what 33" tyres look like on someones truck,,most pics are of 35's and i only want to goto 33's.
re window frames,,i did mine and was very suprised how easy it was,,,if i had to do it again i'd get the frames from a wrecker but remove them myself to keep the rubber repectable,,

I was thinking about getting windows in there similar to what you find on builders ute canopies.. The ones that open upwards on struts.. It'd be handy to be able to access the back on the fly if you had built in boxes on the inner sides.. I ended up just chopping the back off mine, but it's food for thought..

It was easy? I take it you put your feet on the inside and push them out? Please tell... Also the Shorty windows are not the same as the LWB Patrol the guy in parts told me $250 till I said it was a SWB Patrol.

They are 36 x 12.5 R16s and they are LOVELY!
It is running 4" heavy duty Dobinson coils (givign about 5.5" lift + 40mm bodylift and there is no scrubbing. I also spaced the rad arms forwards 15mm. There is loads more info in my member's thread.
There are pics of it on 33s in the thread as well. They are great on the freeway with stock gearing.

By the time you lift your truck 6-10" overall those windows are getting kinda high to be reaching into. Here is another pic next to a stocko...

1. Are you sure? I wish I had a shorty available to check this. (Wendle... please advise)
2. If they are plate glass you can get them made to suit anyway. Then all you need is the rubber seal which is an off-the-shelf item at any windscreen place.
from the inside with a lever (screw driver),,,
at the bottom of the frame ,slide lever in/under and lift the rubber flap over the lip,,,
you'll have to inch along lifting bit by bit while holding the already fipped over part until you get the pressure off,
mine were that rusty i ask my kid to open the sliding window and smash, window on the floor,,
when you get the new frames you have to pull them apart like a strong man and slip in the old window,,,
i did one side of the truck ata time so i could see where the flaps sat ,,
re inserting the frame was too easy,,,
there's an inner flap ,,the one we un pealed that now needs pealing back over,,,to do that i ran some rope under the flap all the way around the frame,,,
got my Italian wife to lean against the frame which is just position from the outside,,,with me inside i started with one end of the rope and pulled it out which inturn pulls the flap in over the metal edge,,,
in hind sight pull the rope at 90deg to thr frame or you'll pull the
roof lining around,,,
just do one side at a time to see flap placement,,
there's a web page somewhere where i got the info from, mine's lwb paid $200 per frame through my neighbour who's a mechanic.

I dunno, I have never seen one with rusted out frames, I defenitely have no rust in mine. The benefits of living inland.
Yeah but are the SWB/LWB the same size rear window? I would think that they are.
New Aluninum Frames!!
Hay All that have rusted frames on the SWB or LWB GQ.. I have managed to find a company in SA that is clearing out there stock of frames they will be around 250-280 for the pair and I am thinking about getting some in bulk so it works out cheaper! Please let me know if you are interested as I will order them in one hit..

I can confirm that the SWB is longer than the LWB.. As I have a SWB with the LONGER window No need to show anything the window is a true reflection of the rigs owner

Yep you are right. I just did my little carpark trick (we have a SWB & LWB parked downstairs... they often get the tape measure thrown across them he he)
Dimensions from outside of rubber surround.
LWB
Top Length = 830
Bottom Length = 880
Height = 500
LWB
Top Length = 1130
Bottom Length = 1200
Height = 500
Oh yeah and I wear size 14 shoes

Bugger! I chopped mine off
For that price, i am extremely interested, and i think my mate will be in on it as well, 2 SWB's, we are in melb, any1 else in melb for them so we can get the 5 discount?
marin
P.S. what are rubbers worth?
(i'm presuming we are talking GQ here, as i dont know what "Overkill GU", drives, but the lack of GU shorties here tipped me to this assumption)
