Wheels spinning at different speeds?

Post by 88pajero »

Yesterday I took my 4runner out for the 1st time and had a ball. It is a very capable little rig. Only thing is, my brother got some video footage when climbing a loose sandy hill and when I broke loose the front wheels spun quicker than the rears. Is this a sign that the person who owned it before me has put a different ratio diff in or is this just a normal thing depending on how much weight is transferred over the lsd?

when you dont have lockers power will often transfer to the wheel that has the least traction, also Toyota's can have really pathetic LSD's so they often transfer alot to the fronts when the rears should both still be cranking, this is of course assuming yours is actually LSD in the rear.

As for your ratios, not likely, if they where different when you drove on hard stuff with hubs locked in you would know about it.

If both rears were spinning together, but only one front spinning, it will spin at twice the speed. The centre transfer case is locked, but if you hold one side of a diff, the other side speeds up. Same torque, different power (torque*speed).

Excellent, thats good new then.

Both rears were going togeather but only one front.
I figured everything was o.k because it drove real smooth and quiet in 4x4, just thought id better make sure.

Cheers guys.
