Suspension in 85 rocky
f75 suspension...i do not want a 4 foot off the ground vehicle but have to upgrade the leafs in an 85 rocky..just put a engine in that i got recoed and want to keep the old chugger for some time...much to the ladies dissappointment....use it for camping and doing some real tough track here in the cairns area and it screams along but not enough height...bashed the fuel tank the other trip and not happy due to the fact i only have one...any ideas i have heard a retension only last a short time due to the fact the steel is different??? had a nossan ute before got it retensioned gained 2 inches and it stayed there for 4 years until i sold it...my mate had a cruiser did the same around the same time and it had sagged in the arse end after about 12 mths..any ideas???
Front leafs are pretty crap really. Especially in the diesels due to the extra weight of the motor.
Used Lovells springs on mine. Come standard at 2" lift which is the same with most aftermarket brands. Have a feeling thats the max you can go without an engineering certificate. Had them for about 5 yrs. Havent sagged at all. Stiff but not to much so. You'll need new shocks as well if you go this option due to the 2" lift.
Thats the premium way to do it. Cost me over $2000 for the springs and Rancho adjustable shocks when I did mine.
If you want to do it on the cheap then a reset could be the go. I'd think you would need to add at least one extra leaf to the front though if you expect it not to sag. Not sure on the cost tho'.
Also dont underestimate what a decent pair of new shocks can do for ride and handling. Wont help your lift thats all.
Good luck.
Cheers
