argh -- diff oil still leaking

Post by Brendan-s »

replaced the oil seal that sits just inside the CV yesterday as it was pissing out oil. all good I think, except its still leaking oil severely :(

My next guess is it's the seal on the side of the diff pumpkin that needs replacing (bugger). Is there anything else I should know? Seems pretty straight forward, pull both axles, pull the diff centre, clean, replace. Clean and repack bearings, might even put a kit through the swivel hubs while everything's apart. Have I missed anything?

I'd say you didn't fit the axle seal correctly or you damaged it refitting the axle.

&($#@ okay no worries. Have plans to pull the whole diff down and put a kit through the swivel hubs on the easter long weekend. Took good care to fit the seal correctly, greased it up slightly and got it sitting perfectly. I think I damaged it getting the axle back in place. Bugger.

Alright, so forgive my ignorance, but when you fill a diff up with oil what stops it from leaving the pumpkin and travelling outwards towards the hub??

So diff oil flows from around the pumpkin all the way along the axle seal to the seal at the back of the swivel hub? Sorry for all the questions I have had half a dozen bourbons (hey its a Wednesday night and all) and have been looking through the manual but can't find anything

Cheers. I didn't mean to write that first 'seal' in the last reply.
