hilux bullbar interchangeability

Post by zero »

So will any bull bars fit across the range or are they all model specific?

i got a 01 single cab, wondering if a bar and sides from a late 90's will fit
straight up?
minor modifications?
no chance?

How much "late 90's" are you referring to? The Hilux went to IFS in 98 I think, but the 4runner went there in about 1986!

The difference is IFS, Solid. They will not fit the other, unless you are handy with a grinder, welder and paint!

The mounts aren't overly an issue, you can modify them.

In saying that, your model hilux is wider then an earlier model in the body. An earlier model bar will sit in under the sides nearly 2" or so. They are also fairly flat across the front, where as the later model curves forward in the center of the grill. With that the center upright sections will probably hit the grill and if you bring it forward to clear will see the side sections not lining up with the curve of the guard, also would leave a large gap underneath the headlight area.

You could make it fit, but it's not going to be a very neat fit and will need to do some surgery to make it neat. Be easier just to hang out for a later model bar.

For those earlier guesses, Hiluxs started to get IFS in 1988

4 Runners only went IFS in 1986.
In 1989 (maybe late 88) the 3rd generation Hiluxs were released with IFS in all SR5 models ONLY.
All models became IFS in 1997 with the introduction of the 4th generation.
