When replacing front seals and bearings in my hj47 i also took apart, cleaned and regreased the hubs (AISIN type).
Turning to hub to "lock" from "free" it will only go halfway, I can hear the little gear getting pushed and with both hubs locked I can't turn the front shaft so it is obviously working.
Any thoughts? I suppose i put it together wrong but can't think how it would result like this.

At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.
