difference in 4.2D and 4.2TD
difference in 4.2D and 4.2TD
just wondering what differences were between the 4.2D and the 4.2TD. And how will a 4.2D take and aftermarket Turbo and what sorts of boost has people been running in it with out a problem.
whoa whoa whoa cowboy too many variables be more specific.
diff between 4.2 and 4.2TD
4.2TD 114kW @ 3600rpm Torque 360Nm @ 2000rpm
4.2 85kW @ 4000rpm Torque 264Nm
aftermarket turbo 4.2 specs vary
safari quote 120kw 375Nm from intercooled kit
boost is another question all together it is a depends type answer

sorry, im looking at a GU Ute 4.2D and wasn't sure how it went with an aftermarket turbo if i wanted to turbo it later on down the track. a mate at work told me the pistons were different after 95 in the 4.2D compared to the 4.2TD. I was also trying find out if the CV joints and diffs were different because i was told that the GU had tougher Front diff and CV joints then the GQ and wasnt sure if it made a difference with the different motors.
the difference is on a non turbo 4.2 out of a gq has cast pistons and the vacuum pump is on the alternator and 4.2 turbo out of a gu has forged pistons and the vacuum pump is on the timing case below the injector pump
but you can turbo a gq motor with out any dramas its only when you get into high boost pressures that you need better pistons
cheers

The factory TD42 turbo engine has an oil cavity under the piston crown that is fed by the oil squirters in the block for piston cooling, it also has a larger rod and piston pin than the non turbo engine.
