Well I am new to this forum so hope this is the best section to ask.
I want to buy myself a Suzuki Sierra as first choice this week, hopefully from Vic and with RWC to make life a little easier, all I care about is has to be soft top and in good condition. Would like something modified but have the budget to do the mods I want. Have also had a look at the bible you guys have and it has some awesome links and work done to it.
What are peoples suggestions as to where to look for one for sale?
Tradingpost, EBAY, Carsales etc?
Also curious about if I buy interstate and drive it for the three months grace period with out of state reg can I still use the blueslip from NSW to get it reg in VIC or do I need to RE-RWC the vech?

What type of wheeling do you do/do you want to do?
You mention mods, what specifically do you have in mind?
My advice is to look everywhere you mentioned as well as the for sale section here. Im also fairly sure that you will not be able to use a nsw blue slip for reg in vic but am happy to be corrected.

v840 will ask in the Zuki section next time mate still learning the navigation.
Budget- Max $8K car for the right example but rather be a cheap person and get something decent for $5/6 and have the rest of the cash spare to get it where I want it to be or at least a decent base.
Mods:Hilux DIFF conversion as I heard the Zuki ones break, clean up body and put buckets in, engine conversion whilst on budget thinking either the GTI Swift Turbo engine or go the Baleno Turbo engine route.
Down the track the Sierra will recieve either a basic 12A or 12AT, once I have the driveline development done as want to retain the 4WD system.
First car I ever crashed was a Suzuki Sierra when I was 13 or 14 head first at 180MPHs into a Totara Tree(This was back in NZ) Thing was a V8 OFF ROADER was an awesome OFF ROADER just kids and gravel and grumpy step Dads teaching them to drive don't always mix, so I guess I want a semi replica of that particular Suzuki but without the V8 and other bad stuff.
As for Off Roading want to get into some Beach driving, but not into the water as hate rust, but I do know the sand will also give it some abuse. Will be taken into the Snow and will look at doing other stuff like Rock trecking down the track as it looks like a lot of fun.
dont bother on the lux diffs.
drive it till you break it first. they are stonger than u think esp on the slippery conditions.
what size tyres are you thinking off?

Turbo because I haven't owned a turbo since my Mazda GT-X and I miss the "Boost"
Plus all my friends have been telling me if I buy a Zuki I am going to get bored in 5seconds flat and there possibly slightly right I sold my last RX-7 as it was a tad too slow and couldn't hold my interest long enough.
So the aim is to have the Zuki with the potential to be reliable enough to get me to work Mon-Fri and be there for weekend antics if that be local or long distance travel.
Plus I would love to take it up to Jambo in QLD to prove a point too

If you seriously think you're going to get bored in a slow car, don't buy a 4WD. None of them are quick and they certainly don't handle well enough to take any real power.
4WD's are a completly different animal to a road car. You don't drive them the same way. I own a quick road car but the lack of speed in my 4WD doesn't bother me, it's not for going quick.
Remember that you can only use as much power as you have traction. I can spin all 4 wheels off road with 660cc, beyond that all the power in the world won't help... except in sand.

A heavy powerful sierra is pretty pointless - you pretty much end up with a cramped unreliable version of whatever you got the diffs off of.
Bear in mind that if you buy something already modded, you'll be buying someone else's idea of how to build a car, and all the problems that they never quite sorted.
Before you get into a massive build for years, buy a standard(ish) car and get out on some trips. You'll end up with a different plan on how to build you car.
Come along to a suzuki club meeting and have a chat to some of the guys, were always building weird stuff.

PS there's very little access to sand in Victoria. There's sandy track driving in the north west, dunes down on the SA border (Robe) and dunes in Portland but you have to be a member of the Portland dune buggy club and meet safety requirements to get on the dunes there.
Beach driving is not permitted in Victoria.
Not trying to rain on your parade, but building a car with sand in mind might not be best way to go.

I think once u drive one round some roads with speed u wont want one to go much faster lol...not much use trying for power in a car u want to last in the bush, small things like heat..power=heat ha ha ( my zuki never gets hot)..
