A few things
A few things
Hi all, I have a 4.2 turbo gu ute and want to know a few things. It doesnt blow any smoke even when i flog it, does that mean its not getting enough juice, it idles at about 750 rpm is that norm and ive also had it dyno tuned and adjusted to 13psi but wasnt happy with the power or fuel economy (about 5ks a litre sitting on 100). Just had my pump timing adjusted from 0.5 to 0.68 which has made the power better not sure bout economy cause i havnt driven it much, should the timing be advanced more cause of what they did on the dyno? Any help or ideas would be greaty appreciated
Thats about 13.8L/100km. Thats actually pretty good.
If you're happy with the power/torque, and you dont have any overheating issues - i'd be happy with that. The only other thing you can really do is change your driving style (ie. try 100km/h or even 90km/h on the freeway). Sure its not cool to drive like your pop, but if it means money in your pocket (fuel), i'm all for it.

I'd say there's a possibility, but at what cost??? How much do you want to fork out to get maybe 10-11L/100km?? Just remember that you have a very old school diesel motor trying to push along 2.5T worth of vehicle, and thats no easy task for ANY motor (within reason).
First thing i'd do is try another workshop and get another tune. Get your truck fully serviced before hand (oil/fuel & air filters/grease driveline/check tyre pressures), then you know that your fuel consumtion will be at its best when you do the next road test.
If you still have no joy after the second workshop, then you should maybe consider getting an LPG conversion done. More power, more torque, better economy.
Also keep in mind that power and economy dont usually go hand in hand.
