253 coming out for 308 or V6.

Post by Feenz »

G'day, gotta ask these questions as I have too many ideas clouding my common sense.

ATM I have an 81 hilux, on 35's with a blue 253 and hilux 4 speed.

Last 4wd trip I did the 253 shat a few parts (about $600 worth) plus it's a fuel destroying excuse of steel. I have all the lpg gear minus an impco 425 to run it on straight gas. So with the price of 308's could just spend the little extra coin on one and upgrade gear boxes to a turbo 400/700 and whack the lpg gear on. (also have a edellbrock performer manifold in shed)

Option two though is just as cheap. Looking at VN, VP, VR commodore wrecks for $1000, take out the V6, T700 auto and electric and fuel out for a total conversion.

What would the economy figure for a 308 on straight lpg vs. a pre-ecotech V6 on petrol be??

Also what is EFI like to straight gas cost vs. worth doing.

Any oppinions on the better vehicle appreciated. Thanks.
