Ironman Winches, anyone used one?

Looking at an Ironman Winch as with my limited use time cant justify the $s for a Warn. Anyone used one good/bad experiences? Looking at a 9500lb to go on an 80 series

mate down Timboon has one and loves it. never let him down yet. His son has one on his GU now and has only used it 1/2 dozen times in anger, but again cant fault it.

i had a 9500lbs winch pull me up a hill when my battery died i drive a 88 hj61 vx sahara

it was on the front of a navara pulled me up a decent incline no winch blocks or night just a dead straight pull let it cool down a few times but he seemed to never have a drama with it

Got one. Snapped the 13500lb plasma last week, so works well enough (fairlead needs rounding is why it snapped)

The "cutout" switch is crap and with water will stop working.

The brake one mine has goen tight making freesppol suck, I have to strip it and throw some lanolin on it.

Reasonably water tight, plenty of grease. Got top marks in the winch comparo done by SA 4WD club mag (on web somewhere). $625 if you look around on this site. Gears are all the same hardness, unliek ebay.

Suppsoedly they went to china like all the ebay guys, found all the common faults, went back and got the manufactuer to make them for them without the faults.

Thanks guys, will look at these or the Tigerz one thats been posted up. Bit more $$ but bigger capacity and rope as std sounds good for the price. Just need to either mod my std bar or find a winchbar

The Ironman winches also have a great solenoid in them.

As someone who does'nt know much about winches or solenoids what is so great about the iron man solenoid?

from memory is is because they are sealed (wont fill up with water and rust solid etc) and cost upward of $200 as an upgrade over the old style can type units (that are just a big general purpose relay for all sorts of things)

Titan Solenoid – The king of Solenoids! Titan Solenoids are designed and built specifically for operating electrical winches and vehicle mounted cranes and is constructed to international standards for electrical products and includes the latest technology in switching solenoids. A key feature of Titan Solenoids is the use of Silver Cadmium Oxide (AgCdO) coated contacts which resist arching when switching currents, this eliminates a common cause of failure among the common “style” solenoids, those older solenoids do not have this feature, without it they create carbon deposits on the contacts which eventually leads to the contacts welding themselves together forming a permanently close circuit, leading to failure and potentially damage to your expensive winch. Available in 12 volt. Only 1 solenoid is needed per winch.

Hmm, that solenoid is new.

Mine doesn't have that and it's only 4ish months old.

Got a 12000lb in the GU. Done enough hard work and its still going, I would buy another.

The good thing about these solenoids are they don't over heat like to std ones do.

old boys had one for 2.5 years now. great winch and has done some hard pulling.
