righto 5" 4wd on gu ... many here will tell you 3-4" is enough on a GU.
However 5"
King springs (I run dobinsons)
drop boxes (dont run castor plates like i did they are a half arsed attempt to correct castor) (superior)
3rd or superior arms (doesn't really matter imo both as good as each other)
dc for front drive shaft (you will prob get vibes with hubs locked (this seems to depend from nissan to nissan though)
shocks (dobinsons efs tough dog fox take your pick) I run dobinsons and haven't had an issue in nearly 3 years.
sway bar or no sway bar (I run no sway bars on mine)
this will go close to 3K

If you are after decent flex with your 5" lift then I am your best bet. That is Suspension Stuff. A link to my web site is below.
Using other people's coil designs plus developing some myself I am able to select the best high flex coils to suit your application and accessories.
As others have said it does depend on what you want to do and how you want to do it. If you have $3000 to spend on suspension then budget isn't the problem.
For the 5" lift rear I use 8" lift shocks without the coils falling out. You will have to raise your bump stops to accomodate this. There is no write up about these on my web site yet but you can see all my other prices and the prices are the same as the regular coils for high flex coils. I will do the write up probably early May.
If you want flex up front then you could consider Superiors Superflex arms. I have developed high flex coils to suit these Superflex arms. Again, if you have a winch I will select a different set of coils to suit.
I have write ups on all the other bits that you may or may not want. Just check out the Kit section on my web site.
I keep everything needed for this lift in stock and for any other lift for a Patrol. (However I have another couple of pallets of coils arriving in a week before I am fully stocked)

Mate if you want tall coils that will still carry heavy loads and not sag I've found the Tough Dogs to be the heaviest duty big coils around.
They will still allow your rig to flex well too but flex is more to do with suspension arm geometry more so than spring rate.
Patrol rears flex fine but the fronts are limited in standard set up.
Drop boxes are better than drop arms or castor plates because you can keep the standard radius arms and they keep the radius arms inline with the front axle making it easier to roll up and over obstacles and also reduces the tendency for the front axle to try and "roll" under hard braking thus extending the life of your bushes.
Cheapest way to pretty much double your front flex is an X link and your front sway bar can still be used on road with extended sway bar links to suit your lift.
5" lift is pretty high for a GU, they are already 2" higher than a std GQ.
Quite often, more lift means less flex and wheel travel unless you address the geometry.

This depends on what 4" coils you are talking about. Usually 4" rear coils will take 730mm shocks. Drop out cones give you about an extra 2".
For the high flex coils that I am talking about you can run 820mm shocks in the rear.
860mm with drop out cones. At this stage it would be best to raise your upper shocks mounts. If you were willing to tie you coils in then you could run longer shocks again.
I will be doing more testing in the next month so I can let people know how big your bump stops need to be.

Im thinking of going the KING 2.25 smoothies from Rangie automotive in Lilydale 2.5 inch lift set up as the biggest I want to run is 35's...He does not have them for sale as yet...think the final adjustments are being made as we speak as he had a prototype set here in his own GU cab chassis for testing....

Our GQ/ GU slinky coils [and 80 105 for that matter] are a 4" lift and stay captive with a 14" stroke shock no problem.
We also have slinky coils for the front, as you can see in the ramp articulated pic.
That pic is our suspension sway bars connected with the right links, bush pressure in the tyres, if the others cant get you that same bang for your buck, or can only offer the same stuff everyone has, then why would you buy it

Mate you live in QLD so basically anything over 2" lift could see you waste all your money.
So stick to 2" or maybe you could push it to 3" & don't waste thousands of $$$$$

I have to agree with John. Personally I set up my vehicles for a 3" lift here in the promised land. However I do set them up with variable high flex coils so I can get the same flex as the 5" Lift guys and often more.
Each to their own though. I still sell a lot of 4-5" lifts all over Australia including QLD. (I assume they are all using them for competiton purposes though and trailering their rigs to the comps )
