Diesel gas
Diesel gas
anyone got anything bad to say about diesel gas
diesel gas
Friend has it and has noticed an improvement in performance. he also said that he had problems with the membrane in the mixer douling and thought it would be quite some time before he would recoup the additional 1500 to 200 grand outlay. He has it in a Gu and was a little dissapointed with the tank size fitted.

gas problem
I am not sure of the exact nature of the mixer, it was replced under warranty, I am unsure of how it happens and what happens. currently he is overseas.GUpatrol02 wrote:is that problem with the membrane an expensive problem and what actually happens when he has the problem
perhaps someone else might have heard of similar issues, i am not up to date with diesel gas possibly because it was told to me that with a gq the results are not as good with a computer based diesel.
To date I have turned cars over too often to get the benefit out of it also.

the gas mixers are quite sensitive, and the membranes in them can get a hole in them that renders them useless, unusual for one to go in the process of operation, usually goes when u open them up.
not too expensive to replace, and as it was done under warranty i would say it was a factory issue, not a mixer issue

have done many lpg/diesel conversions.
lowers engine temp
increase in power by about 30%
better fuel economy
gain around about 1 tank of diesel to the use of 1 tank of gas at around about 50 litres of gas, you might need 1 tank of gas to 5 tanks of diesel.

Giant racing, do you install diesel gas your self. Was wondering how the 4.2TD goes on gas. Was wondering how it went even with relatively high boost. Does it go well performance wise.

dont know of any bad things really. the way i set it up is like a car gas on gas off switch. the gas is on top of the diesel(gas injection). there are different ways of doing it but it works out to dear to do. my way is about $2000-$3000 depending on tank size/placment/fittings etc. there are places like team green autogas they will take $6000 off your hands to do the same job. the only down side to doing it my way is i dont use a hi rev cut hard to set up right and a waste of time any way. all it does is if you hold it at hi rpm say 5000 rpm , instead of dropping straight to idle it will slowly come down because of gas in the hoses.

i have heard the opposite. it will INCREASE temps. EGT's anyway. i would love to gas my 4.2 but scared of the egt's as they already hit my limit.
giantracing, i take it yours doesnt run a fancy computer? i have heard of some with computers doing several things like no gas at idle, no gas when you lift off the pedal...finer adjustment of mix.....and more im sure...
i am by no means an expert, these are the things i have heard 3rd hand. is it safe to run gas without these "fancy" bits like computers and auto shut off?
approx 1/3 of diesel tank is needed in gas...but it varies on mixture.
cheers

From the deisel Gas site;
http://www.dieselgasaustralia.com.au/FAQ.aspx?ID=FAQ#7Does the engine run hotter?
No. Since more power is being produced the engine does not have to work as hard so it will not run hotter. Exhaust gas temperatures are also cooler since there is no longer excess fuel being burnt in the exhaust system.

i have a mate who did it, he took all of his rego paperwork with him when he picked it up, took it straight to vic roads and got the rego sticker changed to include gas and put gas stickers on his number plates. then took new paperwork to MEDICARE (as its a govt office) and he had the rebate in his account the next week![gubeaut] wrote:i have seriously considered the conversion and the only thing i was wondering is how long approx does it take to get the rebate back from the gov
we will be getting ours done in the next 4 weeks. going D-Gas

Mate, do piros go up or down with the gas switch flicked?giantracing wrote:give you a scenario (spelling sorry).
GQ turbo 4.2 intercooled , stock engine, but 20 psi boost ,big comp spec pump and injectors with gas 250hp at wheels with gas on, 170 hp ish no gas......
and yes do them all myself
I've been told they climb?
I'm getting 225rwhp @ no more than 470C on the piro, I know that its a rough estimate; but could I run more diesel with the introduction of lpg? and push the 300hp braket?

V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.
while that sounds awesome, it would be a bitch to constantly keep tuned I would expect.vanbox wrote:giantracing, i take it yours doesnt run a fancy computer? i have heard of some with computers doing several things like no gas at idle, no gas when you lift off the pedal...finer adjustment of mix.....and more im sure...
Also where to put LPG tank without losing main and belly tank. inside aint an option.
well all i can say is temps around 500-600 on the piro with big boost big fuel 250hp is nothing with gas on. on the way to cruiser park the big range we all love to drive up, gas on full boost piro about 500 never got over half temp. you ask anyone which knew my truck, it used to hammer.
