LN106 - Gearbox replacement

Post by ntboozer »

Anyone fitted one of the 'Marks' heavy duty 5 speed g'boxs to their rig? My standard 5 speed is getting very tired and was considering fitting one to my 1990 LN106 Hilux.
Any thoughts / comments appreciated.
Cheers

Box

G'day, I put a marks box behind the V6 in my lux and have not had any dramas at all with it. Feels very strong and shifting is smooth. Needed to do a bit of a tunnel massage where the shift linkage is even with a 2in bodylift but that was it. If you are running it behind a standard yota donk it will outlast the donk no probs. One of the best purchases for the lux i've made.

Isn't it cheaper to do a "R" series box conversion?

It would have to be. They are also very similar internally. So much so that you can fit all the Dyna internals into the Alloy R series case. Basicaly the Dyna box is an R series box but has a lower first gear and a steel case.

You could use the R series box and then buy an adapter to run the Gear driven transfer if you didnt want to run the chain drive transfer that fits the R series.

Quoted $2650 + $220 to get it to Darwin.

How does that compare to the R series (what year Hilux is this from?) mentioned here.
