switch question
I need 3 light switches for the 80 series and was thinking of going to the wreckers and getting 3 subtank fuel buttons so it kinda looks factory will nikko out the picture on the button.
Can these be utilised to turn on/off spotlights?

I know that in the petrol 80 series the switch can both turn on and off the fuel transfer but this is still a momentry switch to a relay.
If you leave the fuel pump on until all the fuel is transfered (either the sub tank is empty or the main tank hits 3/4 full trip mark) the relay recieves a signal to stop the transfer and the light on the switch will go off, so the next time you push the switch it will be to turn it on again, not off.
Easiest way to check the function of the switch is to remove the one in your car and do a continuity test when operating it.

At first whiteknight I thought your idea was a little tacky. I was going to use a Narva switch in the dimmer location and just hide the dimmer under teh dash or poke it through the empty hand throttle hole.whiteknight wrote:I need 3 light switches for the 80 series and was thinking of going to the wreckers and getting 3 subtank fuel buttons so it kinda looks factory will nikko out the picture on the button.

But I thought about it a bit more as I had wanted the factory light switch that Slee offer in the States but $$70 USD was a bit steep. A guy was wrecking an 80 locally and I got some body panels off him. He threw in the demister switch for free so now I think this is a great idea. But rather than nikko out the symbol I might get a little light sticker made to look even more factory. I onyl need the one so it'll sit quite well on the drivers side next to the headlight washer switch.
Now just need to sit down and work out the pins when I get time. If you work it out before me (assuming you get a cheap demister switch) please let me know.
Re: switch question
Fester, I take it you took the demister switch I had lined up from the bloke up there :( Was it the cruiser that had the 7" lift, rollcage winch bar, etc, etc?fester2au wrote:At first whiteknight I thought your idea was a little tacky. Damn I suppose now if I tell you that you are right then you will put up the price of your dump if I'm interested.
Yeah it was off that same car. About the only worthwhile bit left, aside from non turbo engine which doesn't interest me.
That car was really trashed.
Yeah went to pick up the front end panels I was interested in and asked what he wanted for it. didn't say anyone else was looking and said yeah what ever so I just paid for my panels and a mates hand throttle assembly I also grabbed and he said no more about it so got it free. Sorry I'll whisper that last little bit.
I was going to talk nicely to one of our customers who does sign writing and has all the computer and vinyl cut stuff and see if he could do up something that small. I was thinking of the general light symbol like on some of the aftermarket switches and making it white on black and maybe having the hole for the illumination light if I can work it out properly. Would only then loose the background illumination but I don't care too much about that.
Don't hold your breath it won't be a priority till I get a few other things sorted but I'll keep you in mind and do few, silly not to really.

Yeah he told me about a guy chasing windows. They weren't totally stuffed but certainly not good enough to put on my car. I hate scratched glass. A lot of winding up and down and screen wiping in mud I expect. He even said it had oil stains on the hoodlining.whiteknight wrote:yeah he said it was pretty trashed..
I was after the windscreen and the two front windows, but he sms'd me saying they are all scratched :(
Back to the trading post I go next Thursday.
