hey guys,

just picked up 2.0L 1999 vitara and i experiencing a servere flat spot during acceleration. I have replaced the fuel and oil filter, flushed engine, new oil, new plugs and what not. cleaned the air flow sensor.

I put some 98 octane in it as well, with fuel treatment stuff and all that, and still i get a flat spot

3rd gets it bad, it will sit there like there is no fuel and suddenly you will get a torque band. it is the same with all the gears but most evident in 3rd.

just wondering what it would be?

The timing is all computer controlled so there is nothing you can play with. How did you clean the air flow sensor? Your next step should probably be plugging in the computer and pulling any fault codes out. Might have a faulty sensor somewhere.

i adjusted the CAS just a second a go, it was a bit slow to rev up and after i adjusted it slightly it seemed better. i havent driven it yet.

a bloke said that it could be the head, needing a reco?

how would i got about getting a de-carb in the throttle body and all associated parts?

Have you had the ECU checked for fault codes?

A dead oxy sensor can cause those symptoms- they start to respond to mixture changes more slowly resulting in surging problems.

It won't be the head or carbon.

It's a 99. If the head was bad enough you were loosing power, you'd have several small men with hammers inside your engine.

Could be 02 sensor, or camshaft angle sensor.

Get the diagnostics checked.
