Hi Guys,
Is the exedy safari tuff clutch still the clutch of choice for the GU 4.2 turbo diesel? and if it isn't then what is?
Is this something i can tackle myself without a hoist or should i just get a workshop to do it?
And is there anything i should get done whilst the box is out. Things mentioned already are rear engine seal (not currently leaking) and the gearbox main shaft with longer spline for 5th if needed. I don't do any regular towing but the vehicle weighs over 3 tonne and on 33's on road/easy trips and 35's for more difficult off-road.
Cheers
Matt
I have already checked bible and recent posts.

We use the 4 Terrain, and have had good sucess, even on the petrol turbos up to 220 rwkW, I'm about to put one in my GU TD42 That will be running 25 psi, custom roller turbo, intercooler, pump, cam and HPC coated internals.
As for doing it at home, I used to years ago but wouldn't now, they are a bitch to get in and out as you have to rotate the box to get the lump for the starter motor in the bell housing past the trans tunnel, easier if you have a body lift.
Cheers

got a diaken ???? in my gq t/d at 160hp and had no probs, put it in myself but it is a bit of a pain. used an eng hoist through the car and then down through the g/box tunnel. you can balance the weight fairly easy that way and pull hoist out with box sitting on the hoists legs. left x-member on to drop box but had to take it off the reinstall to twist box to get it in.
a friend of mine has a very worked turbo petty and his 4terrain fried in the first week but they had no probs replacing it under warranty for him and no probs since.
good luck. it was good to see how it all works in there just make sure you put the clip on the throwout fork in properly as it is hard to do through the hole on the side when it falls off in there..??? many laughs at my expense still 8months later. apparently you should always get the flywheel machined when you do the clutch this was about $40 from memory and the guy did it same day for me.
box out 1 nite, flywheel machined, box in next nite. approx 17 rums finished and only knocked about 2 over.
