Rotating a high mount winch motor

Post by patrol man »

I have been working on fitting a high mount to my GU factory steel bull bar.
For this all to work out I am planing on mounting the winch backwards, by welding new mounts to the back of the gear box this will leave the motor to stick up through the bar top. If I could rotate the motor 90" it will fit nicely. with out cutting the top of the bar. The motor I have will not allow this as the bolts fowl the winding wiring and there is no threaded holes at 90" like the low mounts I have seen, so do other motors (4.6 or 6 horse) allow for the mounting bolts to pass through the windings at 90" or only at the set 180"

All the motors that I have only allow 180* mounting.
They are
2.5hp 12v Warn
4.6hp 12v Warn
6hp 12v Warn
7.8hp 24v Superduty.

They all mount the same. To rotate you just need to shift the locating pin.

the problem you will have will be the brake operation, unless when you spin it you come off the top of the drum instead of the bottom.
