2WD Low In a GQ Transfer
2WD Low In a GQ Transfer
Is this possible and how hard is it to modify the case to allow it to shift 2WD low?

That's if you've got full manual lock and not the factory Auto - Lock hubs.mikmav wrote:just flick it to low but dont lock the hubs perhaps ?
Is it safe to drive at high speed this way? (Transfer in 4L but hubs free?)

If you can work out how to cut drive to the rear in low with a single transfer case and no rear disconnect thing, there will be cookies all round.

If he is thinking along the line of me... I think is hoping to shift it to front wheel drive in low range, so he can then lock the rear wheels up to do front digs ?
Then again sometimes there are benefits in just having rear wheel drive.. can kind of give you a bounce in the right direction ?

im thinking if you want 2wd low but drive to the rear wheels in low and no drive to the front then you may have to come up a twin stick conf as i remember there is a shaft the moves on the initial movement on the stick this engages 4wd then the next movement of down and back activates another shaft that activates low range so if you can bypass the first movement you will have rear drive in low range
if you want low range front wheel drive and you figure it out i want one as well

I want 2WD Low Rear Wheel Drive, I want to use a nissan t-case in a rear engine setup.
I am getting a case off a guy soon so looks like I will have to pull it apart.
Does any one have access to a breakdown drawing on the nissan t-case.

Manual locking rear hubsBartso wrote:

unlock the rear hubs them put the car in (4wd) and lock front hubs in done, I don't know how you would go about getting rear manual hubs but im sure you could modify some front ones and get it to work... But in theory it would work..
...
One of the benefits of the Patrol is its strong rear end... by doing that I'm prettty sure you will introduce a few weak points.

Bubs, just tell us what its going in. As then it will stop people suggesting putting hubs in anything.
I am guessing this is for a Buggy of some description it will be raced. HUBS at what ever end will always be locked or flanges will be used.
It will be rear engined. So everything will be turned around. So any 2wd on the selecter will be front wheel drive.
Is this sorta correct?
Sorry I cant help with the actually answer. Just trying to get people thinking in the correct direction.

Have a look at this http://www.yuri4x4.com/rear_drive.php . Should achieve what you want.Bartso wrote:im thinking if you want 2wd low but drive to the rear wheels in low and no drive to the front then you may have to come up a twin stick conf as i remember there is a shaft the moves on the initial movement on the stick this engages 4wd then the next movement of down and back activates another shaft that activates low range so if you can bypass the first movement you will have rear drive in low range

I think he is planning to run the t-case in a rear engine application, so the front and rear output of the t-case are reversed. If he can achive 2WD low to the rear, he gets control over front and rear digs.
As for the hub suggestions, that just introduces more weak points, more custom work, and more hassle to opperate.

Yes people 100% looking at building a rear engined buggy. So i want 2WD rear low range to enable front digs.
This will be couple to a A340E (toyota/lexus) with most likely a 3RZ-FE engine.
I will be using a H260 in the rear a an a hybrid H233/80 Series combo front axle.

I have been working my a$$ off lately (and gettiin ready for TT) so not much time.
Got all the bits back from the laser cutter, and Mick from Superior did the machining for me (while i was at work!! thanks), he sent me through a photo of the bits all assembled last night and they look sweet!!! Just gotta get an o-ring and a circlip today. Then probably wed/thurs night we will split the tcase and fit the shift arms!!! After that we have to make some cool shift levers, which will probably take the most time but it should be all back together by the end of the weekend!!!

donut action? you would have to drop it in 4th to get it to spin fast enough to do donutscooki_monsta wrote:uh why would u want this, apart from some pretty sick donut action uh if you only want it for this, just take your front drive shaft out

I will say that i what i want it for is still a 4wd aplication.
1madengineer, would you be interested in selling a set of what you need to do this ?
Also can you tell if it will work with 83% gears ?

hey nick, the frist set is in the superior gq and i will be punishing it over the next few comps, if all is good the second set is going in Bartso's TT gq. I don't make stuff to sell, i just like designing stuff, mick at superior has all my drawings adn the laser cutting files, so i think if people are interested then he might start making a few set for comp guys. I can't see them being that expensive, but they are a lot more of a PITA than a toyota one as all the shifting is internal. They are easy to fit, although you do have to strip the tcase to do it, but if you are doing a gearset at the same time it should only take an extra 10-15min.CWBYUP wrote:Never you mindcooki_monsta wrote:uh why would u want this, apart from some pretty sick donut action uh if you only want it for this, just take your front drive shaft out

The hardest part is getting some cool looking shift levers!! i haven't got to that stage yet but this weekend i will have to sort something out!
If you can get the 83% you will love them!!
