ok the going somthing different will make a statement. asevery man & his dog has GQ's,& the mags/cameras/sponsors react well to somthing a little out of the norm!!!!
you say your engine is tired..if so commadore V6 or 5lt efi with auto boxs are cheap now. throw on a hilux trany, GQ diffs, 37" rubber & you will have an interesting & unique PAJ!!!!
I have done this to a Daihatsu Feroza!!! but I cut the body down to a extra cab & put GU running gear with 4.88 ratios in.... go ahead!!!!! be different!!!!

my concern with changing the engine means its harder to get registered and would also put me up a class.
i doubt a little paj would be competitive with the big boys
i was thinking that if i did go with the paj and stay with the manual box i could go twin transfers maybe?
if i changed the xfer it would probably be a GQ xfer and GQ/GU diffs

in 05 I took an 1980 mod scat to OBC with the v6 I was just hopeing to finish in the top 30 to 40 rigs,I ended up in the top 10 alot of it is good management, but most of it is good luck..needless to say the way she's set up, she'll pull 115klm in low before hitting the rev limiter..you gotta rember you will probably weigh in a lot lighter than the GQ's. mine comes in well under 2 tone

the paj as it sits now is just under 2T

in high you have to build up your speed, in low it punches a lot more quickly. pitcure open country,its not like the HWY where it is easy to get your speed up & down as there isnt much variation in speeds(15 - 30 klm max) open contry variations mightbe between 10 - 80 klm at any time,& could be soft sand, loose rock ect & changing between low & high can waste too much time
with a combination of 37" tyres a slightly played with V6 & auto modded a little too,I put in 4.88 ratio diff centres she motors quite nice. & on HWY in 2wd I havent had the chance to open her all the way up, but at 187klm I was looking for blue lights, IM no mechanic,but this combo has worked well for the little weight she carries

You can always go the GQ chassis with paj body as like nick mention suzzyq at tuff truck. the paj would have a tiny wheelbase so you would have to cut the body up anyhow to extended it.
Being different is always but comes down to budget and your skill level and also how quickly do you want to compete.
My choose would be gq chassis and diffs, cal offroad cv's with commodore v6 and auto and patrol transfer with paj body on top. easy to register as motor would be same age or new than the chassis and remounting the body wouldn't be hard. you could go a shorty and extend the wheelbase and stretch the paj body a touch.

plenty of better power/weight motors out there. plus torque isn't the commo 6's strong point.

doing plenty of research on both vehicles and many options i am coming across.
comp isnt a priority yet,so no rush there. first i just want to have some fun and get used to whatever vehicle i build up
