6x6 GQ
6x6 GQ
Hi all,
I did a quick search with no results, so go easy if its been covered allready.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NISSAN-PATROL-GQ ... dZViewItem
Very interesting. Would make a great tourer, needs a LOT of tlc though. Pity about the toyota diffs....
Anybody know anything about its past?? I never even knew one existed (obviously not from the factory anyway), let alone raced.

Novelty factor?? 6x6 with locked diffs would go almost anywhere too.bogged wrote:10k? its a rusty hulk.coxy321 wrote:Hi all,

I'm deprived. I havent gone to any REAL competitions, and have only ever seen one proper winch challenge dvd. Someone needs to put some winch challenge torrents on the www for me.....bogged wrote:go watch Kym Boulton in the first OBC in a 6x6 cruiser.. then tell me goes anywhere.. it couldnt even do a U turn on a sectioncoxy321 wrote:Novelty factor?? 6x6 with locked diffs would go almost anywhere too.

The issue is it gets too much drive and not enough steer. 4 wheels pushing forward, and it just wouldnt do tight turns.. I think he gave up after about 10 point turn in the sand.
I had a pinzgauer 6x6 and it turned on a dime. Very tight turning radius in that truck with all 6 locked in. But that is a completely different truck both in design, form and function.
I see a number of probs with this thing for any real serious offroading. It is hella low, even with 38's it would be low. Flex will suck with that many leaves although how much flex you can get in a 6x6 is debatable. Rear overhang is massive making decents and climbs pretty crappy. It is heavy, real heavy....that means it sinks easy. And bog this and it is really stuck bad. Kind of like a Mog, which is why Mogs are known to come with 30,000lbs PTO winches!
That is some weird suspension too. Not sure why they went through all that trouble with leaf springs, much easier and better to have done it in coils. It isn't like this is so old it was before coils!
If it had Nissan diffs it could be worth the 10k price tag. But with the Toyo diffs it isn't worth much, IMHO. And why would they use Toyo diffs, that makes little sense to me. I am sure the motor is sweet but aren't the gen. 1's the ones that shouldn't be turbo'ed?
and I don't know about you guys but this picture doesn't do much to give a buyer confidence on quality of the workmanship....
Don't get me wrong it is a cool truck none the less. But for that kind of money in this kind of condition...you would have to have more than me to toss around I guess!

A properly engineered 6 x 6 will give you more traction than a 4 x 4 in certain conditions so in those conditions, yes it will go further if it's been built properly and can keep it's wheels on the ground. It really depends on what you want it for. I certainly wouldn't consider it if you need something agile, and the distance between the front and centre axles on this truck looks to be too much to give it any decent sort of turning circle. The extra axle gives you more weight capacity so if your requirement was for off road load carriage, it would be OK.
Are they 6x6 with full independant?? Very utilitarian, sort of reminds me of a big Volkswagon "Thing".RMP&O wrote:I had a pinzgauer 6x6 and it turned on a dime.
I saw one earlier this year - bl00dy awesome truck, although not exactly what i'd consider "luxury".
I would suggest that the Patrol was built incredibly well, but by the looks of the photos its been molestested several times over the years.
