1HDFT into 1HZ DX 80
Im seriously looking at upgrading the turbo 1HZ in my truck to the 1HDFT. I can get hold of an FT, im just waiting to find out how many km and its condition before making up my mind. What i want to know is what are the wiring differences from the HZ to HD, and what is the biggest factory restriction and how do you fix it (i have heard they are fairly doughy from the factory?) . I dont car about the tacho, just essentials like the pump solenoid plug differences, water temp plug, oil pressure plugs/positions, basically anything people can tell me about the swap. I will be using the HZ clutch and flywheel, allready have 3" exhaust and PWR front mount cooler. also, what power are people making, with what mods??

Gday
The hdft has a larger turbo, it spools later and that aswell as concervative fuel off boost make them doughy...add some fuel at idle and they can be starting to boost as low as 1000 rpm. I know of a few conversions and it is plug and play...plugs may be an issue if your hz is pre 95. Your turbo system will bolt on if so desired. No glow plugs to worry about, te ft doesnt even need the screen...safari coolers delete this with their system.
Not surer about power, i have just installed a front mount on mine and it is a different engine when lugging up hills.....what hills. All i did was the pump mods on www.lcool.org

Confucious say...man who argue with idiot, worserer himself
I have read about the fuel mods on LCOOL. My cruiser is a 95 model, so it should be plug in....???? Would make life alot easier!! What is you fuel usage like, and the weight of your truck, tyre size?? The HZ uses a heap of fuel towing the camper trailer, looking to improve this, with more power too.

Hmm, its sounding better and better by the minute! I get about 14/100km on the open road, at about 100-110km/h, with 35's. It uses about 20/100km loaded with the trailer on!!

I drove my mates 79 the other day (I think they have the HDFT don't they ?)
He has just had the LPG injection put on it and it was impressive.
We had a full load of fire wood (we had it loaded with a loader until it was falling out) and I could sit at 100 going up hills easily in 5th.
He hasn't even done any exhaust work or changed factory settings.
Cheers Phil.
