Ok Alternater is not charging I replaced it with a spare i had still not charging,Replaced that with one from a wrecker still didnt charge and wrecker replaced with one that did new that worked and not charging either
Its a three prong plug(Black,Green and a larger Blue one) and 1 main charge wire
what can i check to see whats going on

Could be stuffed.....

The battery will be fully charged but when you start the vehicle the charge starts to drop

do the toyotas have an external regualtor, maybe its stuffed and not sensing the battry voltage, thus not charging

im with Damkia, load test the battery with a tester or check with mutimeter whilst crankin, but even if the alternators tryin to charge, if u have a dead battery it will still look to be dropping voltage

does the battery light come on with the ignition key turned to the on position.
is there a short in the power wire to and from battery and alternator.
also do check earth.
nothing as silly as a charging fuse? what car is it?

Probably the regulator on the passengers side inner guard.

chances are its your battery, most systems require an excitation from the battery to bring the alternator online. i dont know if youve checked that but i presume you would have before asking for help.

other than that, yeah, check fuses. trouble shoot with a multi meter - look for an online elec manual. think also, have you touched anything recently that could have screwed this up? dual batteries? winch? did you forget to connect a wire? (like i did once).

let us know how you go, by the way, what car is it 'coz i have a few factory manuals here and might be able to help you further with trouble-shooting

checked all the earths ther fine,Put a brand new Battery in and also ran a wire from the alternater straight to the battery, Started it and it sat on 12.78 V turned the High beams on and it went to 12.20 volts then went back to 12.78V when there off,The volts never went up so still not charging,The truck is a standard 84 Hilux

Just hooked up an 85A off a VN commodore and now charging :armsup: Only took me 3 hours ,Got my money back from the new battery and got a dual battery system :armsup: .

I ran a charge wire straight from the alternater to the battery with no fuse,doe anyone now about these fuses?
