car audio gear form USA?

Post by bogged »

lookin at some Alpine gear at moment... wondering if headunits from USA would work here? I notice some of the units on ebay from HKong say
Products are ASIA version (Different from US version.)

We guarantee the FM radio can work fine in Europe, U.K., Australia, New Zealand. (Please email us for details)

FM Tuning 87.5 - 108kHz.

AM Tuning 531 - 1602kHz.
So, with the $ being nice at moment, wondering if its worth it?

make sure they use the same FM and AM frequencies. i know the ones out of jap imports don't.

other than that, if it's DVD playback your after, make sure it's region free.

if those two things are good, then no reason not to.

I looked into this some time ago.

From the information received from one of the audio companies the frequency is not the same.

Would be worth emailing pioneer to confirm this though.

they do also make adapters to combat this problem at least with the jap ones., i know that the jap ones use the same frequency range, just stagger the frequencies used differently.

for instance, we have 101.9, they would have either 101.85 or 101.95. the adapter staggers our signal back to the head units home country's frequency. only downfall is that 101.9 for instance will always display as 101.85 for instance.

would be worth checking into the differences between the US frequencies and here.

US imported vehicles, the FM radio works fine out here. AM radio in the us steps in increments of 10 on even numbers, ours in increments of 2 on odd numbers.

Be carefull with speakers off ebay, there has been many copies of speakers made that sound terrible compared to the originals.
I have had this happen to me with high end speakers.

Head over to www.mobileelectronics.com.au and have a look on the forums. There's alot of information about this sorta stuff.
