Just a few quick questions.
I have a GU ute that i'am in the process of deciding weather to srip all the gear off or leave it as is and sell it that way. Is it better to sell a standard ute or a modified one? I dont expect to get my money back.
Few things its got:
Lockers (ARB of coarse)
35 inch tires pro comp
Suspension lift
custom tray (still have standard one)
Rock sliders
I'am looking at down grading to a GQ wagon.

have 2 prices, one with accessories and one without.. but it aint worth takin lockers out sadly, the cost if your payin is not cheap - that said the price I wanted was from one truck straight into another.
If you want to sell to a "normal" 4x4 driving type do all of the following (my opinion of course). If you are trying to sell it to an outers type 4x4 nut, then maybe you could scrap points 3 and 4 without loosing value. Honestly, it is always best to salvage what you can unless you have more money than Bill Gates.
1. If you can do diffs and have a spare day take them out in the centres. I bought some secondhand centres for my 60 and kept the old ones in the centres. Second hand ones cost me $200 each and I sold the locked centres for $800 each. Hence I made $1400 which is a new locker, or one and a hald second hand ones, for the new vehicle.
2. If you still have some 31" tyres throw them on. You will save a couple of hundred dollars easily. Also, 35" tyres may not pass rego, so always better to sell with rego passable gear.
3. I wouldn't bother with the suspension lift, unless it looks like a house on roller skates with the 31" tyres. If you were keen you could rip it out and get a few bucks, but coils are cheap. I guess it is the dampners that cost you!
4. If the custom tray is top notch and still has a flat bed then leave it on and flog the other one on ebay or the like.
5. Rock sliders are a sinch to take off (unless welded) and will sell quickly. Definitely take these off.

If you have the original gear than much better to swap it over and either keep it for the new truck or sell it.
I know I guy that couldn't get about $4,500 for his 60 series and parted the whole truck out and got some where around $8-9,000 for it all.
Bit different I know, but pretty amazing.

I've always found this to be the best approach as it implies that the car hasn't been stuffed around with, or driven too hard (ie. real offroading).
Any stuff that wont fit on the new car - sell it. Good quality product hold their value (airlockers....).

If you can possibly use the add-ons and accessories etc, then keep them.
As everyone else says, buyers never attach the real value to them.
The only exception would be the stuff where most of the cost is in the labour, eg I would probably not bother with coils and shocks as it is the hassle of taking them in and out that sucks more than the replacement cost.
Just my thoughts, probably repeating what others have said anyway.
