2.5TD NH Fuel Economy not great...

Post by Dalluke »

Hey guys just bought a 1992 NH Pajero 2.5 Turbo Diesel, just finished my first full tank of diesel $1.89 per litre grrr and i only got just under 600kms from 95L is this normal for this model, i would have expected slightly more from the smaller diesel engine considering the 2.8 supposedly does 12L/100kms.

Any comments???

P.S I am running 33" BFG all terrains and i do know that that will contribute to the fuel economy, swapping for 31" cooper sts soon...

fully loaded up with large roof rack bag I got 11L/100km travelling to Coffs Harbour. This was on 31" Cooper ST, and sitting on 90-95km/h all the way.

Coming back we sat on 105-115km/h and went through 15l/100km

City driving (Penrith to Sydney CBD), I normally get 600 - 650km from about 80-85l

i get around 800km round town in my triton, same engine..

i also baby my truck.

i just recently had a new IP and all the injectors overhauled, that helped a HELL of alot in economy. I also had 16psi of boost and a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust...

its takes $140 worth of fuel, 800kms is not bad.

does ur truck blow smoke?????

Blows some smoke on startup and only blows it when i push her hard to get through a corner, but yeah a little smoky. I have tried the Nulon Diesel engine treatment stuff and am going to run some injector cleaner through this tank and see how it goes.

Also how many revs is your vehicle doing when your driving 100kms/hr

Thanks guys, do you guys find 5th gear kind of not enough maybe its just my 33's and ill check what revs i do again tonight but the paj just seems to be working very hard to be travelling that speed. Is there any modifications or gearbox swaps/different gears you can get to maybe get better economy/less working engine @ 110kms/hr, i ask as i am planning a long trip in the next yr and want to be able to drive for a long time at decent speeds comfortably!

Any ideas/soulutions?

Thanks in advance... this forum is great!
