Your kidding me, right??? I may have no idea of what happened but I can read....
A protest was not officially lodged by anyone but an official complaint was lodged with HQ from a close competitor. We were told by Paul Vanderhorst that if a protest was not officially lodged with $500 then there was no problem and if it was lodged then it would have been brought to a panel of people for a decision to be made and we would be notified of the proceedings. We were greated on Saturday morning with the penalties already applied with no further discussion

also heard the "protest & your disqualified" story from other competitors !!!

So ?? did stage place getters recieve there "CASH" ?? :?
Cash Prizes for Outback Stage Winners

The 2008 ARB Warn Outback Challenge is not only the 10th anniversary of the event, it is also the first year that cash rewards will be given for special stage winners.

Lengthy discussions with competitors and others involved in the sport has highlighted that this is the trend in this motorsport. Rather than just award cash to the overall winners, by spreading it through to all stage winners, second and third placegetters there is a greater chance of participants being part of the prize pool. Obviously if you win heaps of stages, you will not only be in the top 10 overall but bring home a cash prize kitty as well.

Special Stages are still in the planning but there should be 26 in total.

1st place $200
2nd place $150
3rd place $100

That's a total of cash prizes equalling $11,700

Add to this the discount voucher for the top 3 overall at $1500 each = $4500. Plus prizes for top 10 overall of value in excess of $10,000.

Prize pool in excess of $26,000 - that's more than $1000 per stage.

Looking at past results of the event it's likely that the top placegetters will tally up a good cash prize pool on top of the prizes they will take away.

It's not guaranteed but the overall winner and second place could come away with more than $2000, third and fourth overall could get $1000 or more plus prizes. It's possible that the other overall competitors in the top 10 will receive more than $500 plus prizes.

The great thing about special stage prizes is that you only have to come in the top 3 of any of the 26 stages and you get not only your medallions but a cash prize.

Don't forget the plaques too. When you enter either the ARB Warn Outback 4x4 Challenge or the Alpine 4x4 Challenge you will get a plaque to put on your wall and a DVD of the event. You don't have to be a competitor to get this, marshals get a plaque every year too.

But the prize everyone wants is the awesome first place trophy which is considered the ultimate 4x4 Competitors aim worldwide.

It will make next years planing easier if we all understand the rules fully as applied by the organizers.

I'll keep my eye on their site...... I am sure it will come
I would imagine that from their side they would probably believe that there is nothing to explain....they ran a massive event...applied penalities to competitors where they saw fit...had the presentation...no official protest (on this issue)...JOB DONE.

What you guys are doing here is having little discussion amongst yourselves over a call the organisers made at the event...

When I was passage controller a couple of years ago, when one of the vehicles in my group paid the $200 protest fee, after a marshall incorrectly penalised them on a stage for something he wasnt understanding at the finish, [I was there, and saw it] when i had to hand over the $200 the competitors gave me to the event organisers, they had no paperwork to process the money, or the protest, couldnt issue a reciept, and told me the money would be used for them to go out for dinner, and his protest was going no where.

After the way the issue had been dealt with from when it was called in, to being visited at night by the organisers to gather the information, to time for money in, protest lodge, to be told what i was, I decided that type of conduct wasnt for me, drove from the stage, handed in my paperwork at the van at Silverton on the way through, and headed home.

That was also the year the some Pro Comp tyres didnt fit in the gauge, and Silver city knocked back a car that had tyres that didnt fit, and the event organiser arrived while I was there, and the vehicle which belonged to an event sponsor was allowed to run, with its tyres fitted, after others had had to grind them down to fit.

The CCDA were going to look at that as well, dont know where it ever went to, but it would seem its time the competitors started its own association, and could have more say as a group in not only the rules, and interpritations, and be able to represent competitors in matters such as Todds, but things like safety, course safety, rules clarifications, and feedback to ensure history doesnt repeat when things in a grey area can be tidied up properly.

Im not sure if the CCDA fits into this role, but if it does, it needs to be less of a toothless tiger, and start flexing some muscle, one in, all in.

Is there any scope for drivers to have a representative or two in the ccda. This would be the best solution as being in the ccda would give an insight into all the issues they have to deal with. A drivers association is a good idea but then it would be a tit for tat constant arguing, going nowhere. Rather than working together it would be an "us against them"

Reading all this Ill never complain about CAMS again in our off road racing circles

To say basically a protest is never going to see the light of day is a joke especially in the circumstances above

If most things said on here are true it is making a mockery of an international motorsport event

Disco boy. I am sure cams have got / had there issues too. This sport is in its infancy compared to offraod racing and circuit blacktop racing. The key word is transparency. You cant be shifty and underhanded if all decision making is transparent.

The CCDA is the Cross Country driver's Association!

One of the documented goals:
Represent the view of the competitors with regard to legislation and event rules.

All of 1k plus members are more than welcome to have their say and represent your sport.

So how about rather than leaving it to a small few and sit back and complain, you all contribute and help grow the sport we all love.

Let's not forget how the sport has improved over the past fews years. Many of you have benefited from these improvements.
Rember this is your Association so lets make it grow.

Feel free to send any issues / concerns to the CCDA and we will review and feedback where applicable.

dont believe everything you read. The event is still one of the best around and is a different format to cliffhanger.

there were over 100 competitors there and this only effected a couple of people. If you havnt done an OBC before dont let this put you off .
